Dear author i appreciate your reply and i would like to share my opinion with you on this matter.
Kishore and rafi were both legends. It is true that kishore didnt get enough opportunity to sing classical type songs but there are reasons for that. He wasnt classical trained but since he was such a rare talent that his skills might have done justice to a ghazal or a bhajan or a complex classical song but his voice wouldnt fit in those kind of compositions. For example, even manna dey could have sung the song gaata rahe mera dil with utmost perfection but his voice wouldnt fit in that song. The limitation mentioned above was known to legendary music directors like madan mohan, sd burman, lp, etc and hence they used kishore accordingly.
But in case of rafi there was no such limitation. His voice would fit in almost any kind of composition.
Ā Therefore i guess rafi was just a notch above kishore in terms of versatility.
