“I’m talking to you” is a piece that aims to embody the concept of coming out to someone who doesn’t want to accept your identity, and who insists it’s just a phase. The figure sits in the passenger seat of a car, visibly anxious as they pick at their skin. The scene depicts a situation many face in their journeys; an important conversation dominated by someone distracted and unwilling to listen– a one-way exchange in acceptance. The person pulls away at their skin, the grounding pain a welcome reprieve from the conversation filling the car. Feeling their identity reduced to something mundane and troublesome, it’s only seen if scratched beneath their skin’s surface.
