The Royal Malaysian Airforce Regiment's Infantry is the basic ground support component of the Royal Malaysian Airforce. The task of the infantrymen is to conduct ground strike operations on enemy positions on foot to support the air force's capabilities of an accurate and more precise attack. They are also tasked with the defense of RMAF airbases in hostile environments. The infantrymen conduct combat rescue missions of captured or downed air force personnel in combat zones.

GBAD is an abbrieviation for Ground Base Air Defence. The RMAFR infantry also is tasked with conducting GBAD operations with involve the use of anti aircraft armaments and systems including the Oerlikon 35mm Anti Aircraft Gun and the Starstreak MANPADS system to carry out their missions.
What makes the Royal Malaysian Airforce Regiment unique to other regiments of the Malaysian Armed Forces is its ability to travel and be inserted into action with the use of EC725 helicopters supported by 10th Squadron of the 1st Air Division. Infantrymen can attend special qualification trainings to allow them to use fast roping techniques as a faster alternative to be inserted into combat rather than the standard landing insertion.
