The Royal Malaysian Airforce's Ground Defense Team (PertaHANan DArat Udara) is responsible for the defense and security of RMAF installations. They act as a special counter terrorism unit and security troopers for RMAF installations. They are tasked with:

• First line of defense of air force installations 

• Controlling the flow of visitors and personnel entering and exiting RMAF installations

• Managing security checkpoints

• Protection of RMAF installations

• Protection of key RMAF personnel and positions

• Responding to high-risk scenarios and providing armed support assistance

• Assisting security operations with air force military police (PROVOS TUDM)

NOTE: IN ORDER TO JOIN HANDAU, YOU MUST PASS A APPLICATION AND SELECTIONS COURSE AFTER SERVING FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 WEEKS IN THE RMAF REGIMENT INFANTRY
