PRIVACY POLICY - CONTROL PANEL FOR YOUTUBE (TUBECONTROL)
Effective Date: October 2026
Last Updated: October 2026
1. INTRODUCTION & CORE PRINCIPLE
Your privacy is our utmost priority. Control Panel for YouTube ("TubeControl", "we", "our") is designed to be completely private, transparent, and respectful of your data. The extension operates entirely on your local machine within your web browser.
We do not collect, monitor, track, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal information, browsing history, search queries, or user activity.
2. ARE ALL REQUESTED PERMISSIONS STRICTLY NECESSARY?
YES. This extension adheres strictly to the Principle of Least Privilege (PoLP). We only request the absolute minimum permissions required for the features to function.
Here is a full, transparent breakdown of each permission and why it cannot be removed:
A. "storage" Permission
• Why it is needed:
When you toggle options like "Hide Shorts", adjust playback speed to 1.5x, or set volume boost to 150%, the extension must remember your choices for the next time you browse YouTube or open your browser.
• What it does:
Saves a simple JSON settings dictionary locally on your device via Chrome's native storage API (`chrome.storage.sync` / `chrome.storage.local`).
• What it DOES NOT do:
It does NOT access your passwords, bookmarks, browsing history, or personal data. It only holds your UI toggle states.
B. "*://*.youtube.com/*" (Host Permission & Content Scripts)
• Why it is needed:
The sole purpose of this extension is to modify the layout, player, and features of YouTube. Without access to YouTube pages, the extension cannot hide Shorts shelves, toggle theater mode, boost audio volume, or convert Shorts URLs to the standard watch interface.
• Why it is limited strictly to YouTube:
We do NOT request broad permissions like "<all_urls>" or broad web-access. The extension is completely inactive and has zero access on any website other than youtube.com.
• What it DOES NOT do:
It does not intercept your YouTube account credentials, Google login, payment methods, private messages, or channel details.
3. PERMISSIONS WE DELIBERATELY DO NOT REQUEST
To protect your privacy and ensure fast Chrome Web Store approval, we have deliberately excluded several common high-risk permissions:
• NO "<all_urls>" or broad host access: We cannot view or interact with any site other than YouTube.
• NO "tabs" permission: We cannot view the titles, history, or URLs of any other tabs you have open.
• NO "webRequest" or proxy permissions: We do not intercept or inspect your network traffic.
• NO "cookies" permission: We cannot read or alter your cookies or authentication tokens.
• NO external analytics SDKs: No Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Sentry, no remote tracking scripts.
4. DATA COLLECTION & SHARING
• Personal Information: 0% collected.
• Video Viewing History: 0% collected or recorded.
• Search Queries: 0% captured or logged.
• Third-Party Sharing: We do not communicate with any external servers. Zero third parties receive any data from this extension.
5. DATA RETENTION & USER CONTROL
All settings and preferences are stored exclusively on your device. You have full control at all times:
• You can change, disable, or reset any option at any time via the extension popup.
• Uninstalling the extension immediately and permanently removes all stored preferences from your browser.
6. COMPLIANCE WITH CHROME WEB STORE DEVELOPER PROGRAM POLICIES
Control Panel for YouTube complies fully with Google's Single Purpose Policy and User Data Policy. The extension only uses permissions that are directly necessary to deliver the user-facing features described in the extension listing.
