The stakes are higher IMO. Throughout the book, there is some unknown character who seems to be the mastermind of the unpleasant truths, and it becomes mind boggling at how anyone could know so much about the students of Bayview. Phoebe is the first target, and because she refused to play, becomes the brunt of the first gossip leaked. The game itself starts to get out of hand, to the point where another Bayview death occurs. All fun and games, right?

Couldn't you just pick truth every time? Yeah your friends learn you killed old man jenkins and you skin cats or whatever else you want to hide but at least you won't be dared to stick dirty needles in your self, or kick open the shed that became a whole yellow-jacket hive and run. no-one can truth you to dare.

Over the past two decades, marine virology has progressed from a curiosity to an intensely studied topic of critical importance to oceanography. At concentrations of approximately 10 million viruses per milliliter of surface seawater, viruses are the most abundant biological entities in the oceans. The majority of these viruses are phages (viruses that infect bacteria). Through lysing their bacterial hosts, marine phages control bacterial abundance, affect community composition, and impact global biogeochemical cycles. In addition, phages influence their hosts through selection for resistance, horizontal gene transfer, and manipulation of bacterial metabolism. Recent work has also demonstrated that marine phages are extremely diverse and can carry a variety of auxiliary metabolic genes encoding critical ecological functions. This review is structured as a scientific "truth or dare," revealing several well-established "truths" about marine viruses and presenting a few "dares" for the research community to undertake in future studies.

Truth or Dare, also known as Blumhouse's Truth or Dare,[3] is a 2018 American supernatural horror film directed and co-written (alongside Michael Reisz, Jillian Jacobs, and Chris Roach) by Jeff Wadlow. The film stars Lucy Hale, Tyler Posey, Violett Beane, Hayden Szeto, Sophia Taylor Ali, and Landon Liboiron as a group of college students who play a game of truth or dare while on vacation in Mexico, only to realize it has deadly consequences if they don't follow through on their obligations. Jason Blum produced through his Blumhouse Productions banner, and Universal Pictures distributed the film.

Olivia Barron is a college student who always puts others' needs before her own. She plans to build houses with Habitat for Humanity over spring break, but her best friend, Markie Cameron, convinces her to join their friends in Mexico. At a bar, Olivia meets a man named Carter, who invites the group to party at an abandoned church. There, Carter suggests they play truth or dare. During the game, their friend Tyson Curran reveals that Olivia has a crush on Lucas Moreno, Markie's boyfriend, which she denies. Carter admits that he tricked them into playing a supernatural version of the game and warns them to do whatever the game asks or they will be killed.

Back at school, hallucinations call on Olivia to pick truth or dare. She picks "truth" and blurts out that Markie has been serially unfaithful to Lucas. The friends learn that Ronnie, another friend, was forced to kill himself after failing to complete a dare. Lucas picks "truth" and admits to having feelings for Olivia. Markie is forced to break Olivia's hand, and their closeted friend, Brad Chang, is forced to tell his father he is gay.

Tyson disbelieves the game's consequences and dies after lying during his turn. The group discovers a story online about a woman named Giselle Hammond who lit a woman on fire in Mexico while playing truth or dare. They arrange a meeting with her through social media. Giselle reveals that one of her friends, Sam Meehan, got drunk and trashed the church. When they got home, the game continued, and only she and Carter survived. Carter was dared to involve more players to give themselves more time before taking their turn again. It is then revealed that Giselle has been dared to kill Olivia and she attempts to shoot her, but Olivia's friend Penelope Amari dives in front and dies instead. Having failed her dare, Giselle is forced to kill herself.

Olivia is dared to have sex with Lucas. During sex, Lucas is forced to admit that he cares about her but loves Markie. Olivia and Lucas drive to Tijuana and meet Inez Reyes, a former nun at the church who cannot speak. By writing on paper, Inez tells them how she summoned a demon named Calux to save herself from a sadistic priest. However, Calux kept a game of Truth or Dare running and killed all her friends. She trapped Calux by ritually cutting off her tongue and sealing it in a pot. The group realize Sam must have broken the pot and released Calux, and to trap him, they need to find him.

Brad is dared to threaten his father with a gun. As he does so, he is shot and killed by an approaching officer. Olivia learns that Carter and Sam are the same person. She is dared to speak the truth. Olivia tells the group that Markie's father sexually assaulted her, and he killed himself when she told him that Markie would be better off if he were dead. Though at first angry, hurt, and contemplating suicide, Markie forgives her friend and tells her it is not her fault because her father had previously been suicidal.

Olivia, Markie, and Lucas find Sam and force him back to the ruined church. As Sam goes through the ritual to trap Calux, Lucas is dared to kill either Olivia or Markie. When he refuses, Calux possesses him and forces him to kill Sam and himself. When Markie's turn comes, Olivia tells her to refuse a dare. Calux possesses Markie, at which point Olivia forces Calux into the game by asking him to pick truth or dare. The demon is forced to tell the truth that there is no way they can make it out of the game alive with Sam dead. They will die unless they add more people to delay their next turn. Olivia uploads a video in which she briefly warns viewers about the game and its rules. She then asks "Truth or Dare", involving whoever hears the phrase into the game, delaying her and Markie's next turn.

In April 2018, Jeff Wadlow discussed ideas of a sequel, stating, "If the movie is a success and I'm asked to come up with other good ideas, there are other stories that could be told through the filter of a supernatural game of truth or dare."[28] In February 2020, rumors emerged that Blumhouse Productions would already be developing a sequel.[29]

Sit in a circle and begin with one player choosing whether they want a truth question or a dare. You can choose whose turn it is by moving clockwise around a circle, spinning a bottle, or selecting random players. Once someone has made their choice, a truth-questioner or dare-master will give them their fate.

Most people associate Truth or Dare with the chance to see their friends do something outrageous. But truth questions are remarkably underrated for revealing deeper feelings and juicy secrets you may not otherwise know about someone. Sometimes the haze of a late-night game after a few drinks provides the perfect setting to open up and confess the unexpected.

How might you write the version of this sketch with only one unusual character? How would you heighten and explore in a version where only Jeanette drew the connection between truth or dare truths and philosophical truths?

All right, Melissa, truth or dare?

Look how quickly you can start a sketch. No chuffah needed. You could have the characters engaging in some unrelated sleepover chatter, but you really don’t need it. This is a sketch about truth or dare, so let’s play truth or dare! You don’t need to ease the audience in; they’ll catch up fast. This is a good area to look at when you’re editing. Do you get to your game within the first three lines? If not, you may need some cuts right at the top.

…this is gonna be a big one. I’m talking about a REAL truth here.

This is the line that establishes the unexpected connection that makes this sketch work. A “big” “real” truth within the context of “truth or dare” means something that is secretive and deeply embarrassing, but a big, real truth could also refer to a high-minded philosophical examination of the world. This is the surprising juxtaposition of the sketch. You have a contrast of opposites: high-brow philosophy with low-brow kids’ games. Important reflections on existence contrasted with frivolous gossip. These opposites are connected by the fact that we use the word “truth” to refer to both. We only need to establish this connection once, and that gives us the freedom to be as silly as we want for the rest of the sketch.

Are humans inherently good?

The first game move. This is usually the first laugh. It’s a surprise (you don’t expect these giggly tweens to start talking philosophy) but it’s also logical (she said she was going to ask about a big truth. That’s exactly what she’s done.)

I can’t believe you asked me that!

When this sketch is performed live, this line also usually gets a laugh. Why? Because it resets reality in a surprising way. Audiences will always assume that the sketch they’re watching takes place in our everyday reality, until they have evidence to suggest otherwise. This sketch seems to open with normal people in a normal world. So far, so good. Then Jeanette makes a weird statement about the inherent morality of humankind. Most people will then assume that Jeanette is unusual, but the rest of the world is still like ours. The response from Melissa is a surprising turn that makes the audience reevaluate the scene. It’s not that Jeanette is weird, the whole world of the sketch is.

It’s worth noting that you could write this sketch with one weird character instead. You could have the same game, with the same observation about the word “truth” but instead, only Jeanette is unusual and the other characters play straight man to her weirdness. This could work just fine! I decided to go the way I did because it felt more playful (all the characters get to play the game) and more energetic. But it’s not the right choice, just a different choice.
