The Disciples

Both Trump and Hitler had disciples who thought very highly of their boss:

  1. The Personal Lawyer: They were ardent admirers of their boss until they lost favor. Both were then indicted for their crimes and then became repentant, before being convicted.

    • Trump: Michael Cohen - see The Trials

    • Hitler: Hans Frank - see The Trials

  2. The Talking Head:

    • Trump: Tucker Carlson

      • Started his career fact-checking nationalistic opinions for the National Review.

      • Fronted a daily eponymous program ("Tucker Carlson Tonight") and was the Right's most prominent commentator.

      • He was the preeminent Republican broadcaster of his time, as part of efforts to present a more popular and entertaining side of the Trump administration, and his face was recognized by the majority of Republicans.

    • Hitler: Hans Fritsche

      • Started his career promoting nationalistic opinions for the Hugenberg Press.

      • Fronted a daily eponymous program ("Es spricht Hans Fritzsche") and was Nazi Germany's most prominent commentator.

      • He was the preeminent German broadcaster of his time, as part of efforts to present a more popular and entertaining side of the Nazi regime, and his voice was recognized by the majority of Germans.

  3. The In-Law:

    • Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner became a Senior Advisor despite a scant resume, and never having held a real job in his life.

    • Hilter's brother-in-law, Hermann Fegelein, was assigned to Hitler's headquarters staff as his liaison officer and representative of the SS and was promoted to the rank of Generalleutnant of the Waffen-SS. He courted Eva Braun's sister as a way to advance his career and was, a known womanizer. He was rightfully accused of desertion and shot days before the war ended on his brother-in-law's order.

- Note: When both Kushner and Fegelein ended their government employment they were almost the exact same age (39 & 38).

  1. The Economist:

    • Trump: Larry Kudlow

      • Worked in mass media (Kudlow & Cramer, Kudlow & Company) before becoming Trump's economist (Director of the National Economic Council).

      • Immediately after the outbreak of the Coronavirus, Kudlow was appointed by Trump to the twenty-six-person White House Coronavirus Task Force which was set up to coordinate and oversee the administration's efforts to monitor, prevent, contain, and mitigate the spread of Coronavirus.

    • Hitler: Walther Funk

      • Was the editor of the center-right financial newspaper the Berliner Börsenzeitung. before becoming Hitler's economist (Reichsminister of Economics).

      • Immediately prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, Funk was appointed by Hitler to the six-person Council of Ministers for Defense of the Reich which was set up to operate as a "war cabinet" - to allow the continuation of the Nazi government, especially in relation to the war effort, while Hitler concentrated on prosecuting the war.

  2. The Clean Trumper/German whose actions and statements at the end camouflaged years of undying support:

    • Lindsey Graham refused to vote against confirming Biden on Jan 6, 2021, as President stating "All I can say is a count me out. Enough is enough . . ."

      • From 2016 - Jan 05, 2020, Graham worked tirelessly in support of all of Trump's political efforts.

      • Georgia’s top elections official said that Sen. Lindsey Graham implicitly proposed he toss out legally mailed ballots in the state, as Republicans seek ways to sway election results in President Donald Trump’s favor. He said he took Graham’s comments as “an implication of look hard and see how many ballots you could throw out.” Politico, Nov 16, 2020

    • Hitler: On March 19, 1945, Albert Speer refused to initiate the Nero Decree that would have ordered the complete destruction of German infrastructure, devastated the Germann economy, and killed millions of Germans.

      • From 1934-March 19, 1945 Speer worked tirelessly in support of all of Hitler's political efforts.

  3. The Mouthpiece: Kayleigh McEnanay/Joseph Goebbels

    • They both originally were quite unsupportive of their future bosses until subsequently seeing the light:

      • Prior to Trump becoming President, McEnanay stated that "Donald Trump has shown himself to be a showman" and it was "unfortunate" and "inauthentic" to call him a Republican. McEnany called his comments about Mexican immigrants "racist".

      • Prior to Hitler's becoming Der Fuhrer, Goebbels once wrote in his diary: "I no longer fully believe in Hitler. That's the terrible thing: my inner support has been taken away."

      • They both subsequently changed their minds after joining the administration.

    • They both had a connection to the Catholic Church which was later petered out:

      • McEnany attended Catholic prep school but is now a fervent Southern Baptist ("to glorify God in all that she does").

      • Goebbels was born a Catholic but over time drifted away from the church.

    • They both were at the top of their class:

      • McEnany was a recipient of the Bruce J. Winick Award for Excellence, a Miami School of Law scholarship awarded to students in the top 1% of their class.

      • Goebbels graduated number one in his class at his Gymnasium.

    • They both told some real whoppers:

      • McEnany has stated

        • Trump "was never given an orderly transition of power” from Obama.

        • Trump has a “long history of condemning white supremacy and racism.”

        • Trump doesn't use the racist term “kung flu” to describe coronavirus — after he was recorded saying it.

        • "President @realDonaldTrump already has an ALL FEMALE Senior White House Press Team"

      • Goebbels has stated:

        • "the burning of the Reichstag was to be signal for a bloody insurrection . . . Today was to have seen throughout Germany terrorist acts against individual persons, against private property . . . the beginning of a general civil war"

          • The Reichstag fire was an arson attack on the Reichstag building, by Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist. There is no evidence of a conspiracy to start an insurrection or civil war.

    • They both stayed with their bosses to the bitter end:

      • McEnany leaving office on January 20, 2021.

      • Goebbels, after murdering his six children (ages 4-12), committed suicide with his wife a day after Hitler had committed suicide.

"Always be around unsuccessful people because everybody will respect you."

- Donald Trump¹, March 2016

"I will tolerate no opposition. We recognize only subordination – authority downwards and responsibility upward."

- Adolf Hitler, May 1931

Carlson - Fritsche

¹ Trump mentioned this advice while addressing a college audience at St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. During the same speech (in 2016) he mentioned the following:

"I think I’ve seen every type of person there is that God created, if you want to know the truth, and the people that are the happiest are not necessarily the people that are the wealthiest. But in terms of monetary success, it does make life easier. You don't have to worry about food and housing and education and sickness. Your doctors, you go to the best doctors and hopefully that solves the problems. But they are -- it does make life easier."

" . . . when you graduate, you want to get great jobs. You don't want to get bad jobs. What they call bad jobs. And even the people that talk about employment in this country, they agree that it's bad jobs. That's what we have now. We don't have the good jobs anymore. We have the bad jobs. And we don't want the bad jobs. Because the good jobs are away, they're not in this country."

"So, the Republican Party hasn't treated me properly, in my opinion. And they haven't. They haven't treated me fairly."

"And you'll find, when you become very successful, the people that you will like best are the people that are less successful than you². Because when you go to a table, you can tell them all these wonderful stories and they'll sit back and listen. Does that make sense to you?"

² I can personally attest to this.
