TrueStep aims to design and prototype a low-budget, lightweight, soft robotics exoskeleton capable of lifting and lowering the foot while walking for foot-drop patients under $1000.
Background
Foot drop is a medical condition where an individual cannot lift the front part of their foot and rotate it about the ankle.
Foot drop usually occurs due to weakness in the dorsiflexion muscles resulting from stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neuromuscular diseases. It is most prevalent among older populations.
Individuals with foot drop are prone to falling and tripping, often developing a steppage gait to cope with the condition.
