What does everyone think about True beauty? Is it worth the hype? I hear a lot of mixed reviews and opinions in my circle of friends and don't know if it's worth investing in watching it. Sure there's the jaw-droppingly gorgeous actors but what about the plot? Did it make you say hey this isn't too bad or was it terrible?

The plot of True Beauty pretty much takes after your standard rom-com Korean Drama with the tropes of a love triangle, the Cinderella story and being childhood friends. But the difference is with True Beauty is that it seems to nail all these tropes particularly well and even add its own twist on them at times too. The plotting of True Beauty is also a fairly easy one to follow and is structured very well so there is no risk of getting confused about what is going on. The drama also definitely nails the comedy and humorous aspect with exactly the right amount of funny moments that were executed so well by the cast. In my books, this is a huge positive as sometimes I find that Korean dramas can try too hard to incorporate comedic moments which can come off as cringy. But this was not the case with True beauty at all as it strikes the perfect balance between, comedy, plotting and pacing all together.

The plot of True Beauty focusses a lot on the love triangle that takes place between Seojun, Suho and Jugyeong so if you are not a fan of this trope then True Beauty may not be the drama for you. But as someone who has read the webtoon there are subtle changes to the plotting of this and extra side character arcs incorporated which made the drama more well rounded than the webtoon itself (but we will explore that further in this post!). One bone I do have to pick with the plotting of the drama and some of the storylines that are embedded within some characters is that it only goes surface level into some of the mental health issues and family issues it depicts in there. It would have been great to touch upon these topics on a deeper level but I also do understand why the drama shied away from it as these topic are not explored in depth in the webtoon and the fact the drama was taking a much more light-hearted tone than a serious one.

Lee Suho is your typical cold-hearted character who has a difficult relationship with his father and a past that has caused his previous friendship with Han Seojun to breakdown. His character growth and development is slow and steady as we begin to unravel the bitter past that lies between Seojun and his father and see him struggle with the guilt of his past. I was never entirely convinced by the chemistry that lay between Suho and Jugyeong, but I am putting that down the fact that I just so happen to be more on the Team Seojun side of things from kdrama perspective and webtoon.

So how does the Korean Drama adaptation fair compare to webtoon? My personal opinion is that in a way it is better than the webtoon because it has developed the characters a step further. For example, we have more insight into Jugyeongs family and even her sister gets her own little love story. I also felt that the messaging in the drama is a lot stronger than the webtoon as Jugyeong learns how to love herself regardless of how she looks. But that is not to say there are a few gaps in the Kdrama too with how much it touches on key issues on a surface level.

But again I am mindful that adapting entirely everything from the webtoon is impossible to do. I also believe that the drama picked a great moment to finish the story off as at the moment the webtoon appears to be going around in circles with no clear ending point. But overall the finished product of adaptation that we got was incredibly strong and enjoyable to watch.

I have to say this drama while often ridiculous gave me something consistently look forward too amidst a hard winter. I would add that the way this drama was filmed with OTT effects and the almost rose tinted glasses effect of this drama world (besides the bullying subplot) did make a Manwha lens much easier. I am actually surprised how much I enjoyed this chaotic story considering how quickly I dropped extraordinary you.

After watching and dropping one too many Im Se Mi dramas where she was some weird poorly written villain, it was so nice to root for her. I also feel like when there were episodes at the midway point where characters were getting frustrating, her scenes felt like a breath of fresh air. I also felt like Cha Eun Woo grew a lot in this role, I was rather put off by him in My ID is Gangnam Beauty, but found myself really able to appreciate the growth and pain of his character in True Beauty. This makes me hopeful for his acting future.

I loved all the many nods to other dramas (TKEM, FMIYM, EY, MLFAS, and my favorite iconic scene from Goblin) and various films (Interview with a Vampire, The Matrix, one of those African wildlife documentaries, and hilariously, that awkward sex scene between the Parks in Parasite, when the Kim dad is hiding under the coffee table ?, and more I probably missed). The writer had a wicked sense of humor!

I did try to watch this Fangurl and I have to say that HS Dramas are really not my thing and I simply lost interest. I tuned in for Cha Eun Woo as I really enjoy him as a regular on the Master in the House variety show. He is a smart cookie and a nice young man. I will probably give this another chance but right now I am watching 9 dramas and the Money Flower re-watch so it may be a while. I was a good girl and did not look at the spoilers so that means I will get to it eventually.

Hey Ive read your two parts of TB analysis. Andddd I really like your analysis. Thats really make sense. You are so right. Same here teamSeojun in the webtoon. So I cam conclude from all of this. If suho deserve the endgame in drama because of this and that, so with the same logic actually Seojun is the one who deserve the endgame in webtoon. Right..

True Beauty, a K-drama that has captured the hearts of many, wrapped its first season in 2020, but there's still hope for True Beauty season 2. Adapted from a popular webtoon of the same name by Yaongyi, the series artfully combines the elements of romance, comedy, and the struggles of adolescence. It revolves around the life of Lim Jugyeong, a high school girl who masters the art of makeup to overcome her insecurities about her appearance. The show's adept mixture of humor and emotional depth, combined with the engaging visual style borrowed from its webtoon origins, makes it a standout in the genre.

The first season of True Beauty was a resounding success, striking a chord with a global audience. Its blend of lighthearted storytelling and more profound themes like self-acceptance and the pressures of societal standards resonated with viewers. Even though the first season of True Beauty definitively ended the love triangle arc between Lim Ju-kyung, Lee Su-ho, and Han Seo-jun, with Lim and Lee reuniting and Han coming to terms with his unrequited love, the K-drama finale still left audiences wanting season 2. Though there hasn't been any official word, there has been a ton of speculation, and there's a clear way True Beauty can continue.

If produced, the storyline for True Beauty Season 2 would be expected to closely follow the webtoon on which the K-drama is based. The webtoon began in 2018, but it has continued long after the TV show ended in February 2021. In that respect, there's so much source material that the True Beauty TV show could adapt. The continuation of the webtoon delves deeper into the lives and relationships of the central characters, further exploring themes of love, friendship, and personal growth. True Beauty season 1 simply depicted the first chapter of Lim, Lee, and Han's coming-of-age story; True Beauty season 2 could continue the relatable K-drama saga.

Please can we talk about that wannabe sexy times scene. I snorted. Also, did Ju Gyeong never figure out who saved her from the roof? Was that ever revealed? This show sure has some plot holes. Anyhow, It was good for what it was and I enjoyed it to that extent. It is just a mediocre drama after all. So enjoy it for what it is

Since the Kdrama is based on a webtoon (South Korean digital comic), the show was definitely humorous and comical, but unfortunately quite unrealistic at times. That aspect never really bothered me, but it may bother other viewers. Personally, I enjoyed the cheesy and clich moments and found them to be really entertaining. The show focuses most of its attention on the ever-so infuriating love triangle, and to add to that, the female lead is clueless about the love triangle. If you are not a fan of the common love triangle trope, then this show is not for you. 006ab0faaa
