Sorry if this is a common question, it just doesn't seem right to me based off all the 1080p movies on my friend's friend's account. None of those videos are in 480p so I hope I'm missing something. I've been using makemkv to rip, haven't tried handbrake because, well, quality loss vs cheap external drive is pretty easy decision for me.
If somehow I'm doing everything "right" and there's no way to take a Star Wars IV DVD in SD and upload it in a quality that lets me see C3PO's face lost in the desert, then I guess I don't see the point of constantly having a computer running, re-buying all my dvds in blu-ray, going through the trouble of ripping them, taking up TBs of disk space, and then watching them in 480p when I could simply walk to a bluray player, put any disk in, and then press play and get way better quality with way less work. Maybe that's just what I should do? I'm not offended to receive that answer, I just figure I must be doing something wrong or Plex wouldn't be a thing.
