Our biggest focus (especially for the younger students) will be musical exploration. We will be exploring with our voices and some basic instruments, while learning foundational principles of music. At this time the class is not meant to be a choir, however the students will be learning some songs (mostly hymns) in order to put into practice what they are learning. At the end of the year program they will get to showcase some of what they have learned.
Utilizing the teacher's textbook and Music from Well Ordered Language level 1 from Classical Academic Press, Michele will take the students through identifying different parts of a sentence. We plan to cover what is needed for a sentence to be complete, identifying the subject, predicate, adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. The class will start by reviewing and learning the songs and chants for the current unit. After that, the younger children (2nd grade and under) will be dismissed to the library to continue enjoying the songs and chants combined with games. The older children will get to practice putting those songs and chants to work as they identify different parts of sentences.
