Trezor performed a study (January 2014 - March 2015) for the European Commission to bring together semantics and data from smart appliances in buildings and households. These smart trezor appliances all communicate in a different manner and the information they exchange differs. TNO brought the information together in the Smart Appliances reference ontology (SAREF) that can be used to match the data from different organizations. SAREF fits into the ETSI M2M architecture.
The project trezor addressed the consumer (mass) market of the home, private dwellings, but also common public buildings and offices, and the standard appliances used in that environment. Elevators and other special equipment are not covered.
Multimedia and home computer equipment devices will be explored only with respect for semantic requirements for the energy relevant operations (switch on, standby), but not for the content management (i.e. channel choice).
The work packages and tasks in the project will fulfil the following objectives:
An overview of existing explicit or implicit semantic assets and use case assets.
Detailed analysis of the existing semantic assets or requirements in an exhaustive way.
Proposal for a unified ontology to be contributed to ETSI for consideration as a future standard.
Documentation of the proposed the ontology into the ETSI M2M architecture.
