Shanghai is in East China and sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the Yangtze River Delta – the name Shanghai means “on the sea”.
Shanghai is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in China.
The Shanghai Metro (also called the Shanghai Subway or the Shanghai MTR - Mass Transit Railway) is widely recognised as one of the most populous metro train systems. As in 2025, it crosses over 800 km with more than 500 train stations across 19 different train lines and has over 10 million passengers every day.
The Bund is a popular tourist attraction in Shanghai by the Huangpu River. It has old, fancy buildings on one side, as well as modern skyscrapers on the other. It’s a popular spot that shows how Shanghai mixes old and new.
