M³ (mcubed or mthree, readers choice) stands for Mid-Atlantic Microbiome Meetup and is an outreach activity that Mihai Pop and I jointly launched in June 2016, with help from many others in the community. The overarching goal of M³ was to enable and spur interactions within the very broad community of scientists interested in microbiome within the (loosely defined) Mid-Atlantic region, including academia, government, and industry participants alike.

So far, we've held a 1) Summer kick-off meeting, 2) Fall workshop and conference, and 3) Spring M³, with our sights set on a winter 2017 event.
