I’m an Assistant Professor of Economics at Southern Oregon University, with affiliate appointments in Healthcare Administration, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. I am also a Honorary Fellow at the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research.
I’m an applied microeconomist researching health policy, labor markets, and LGBTQ economics. My research uses quasi-experimental methods to evaluate healthcare and labor market interventions. It has been published in leading journals, such as PNAS, JAMA Pediatrics, The Lancet Regional Health – Americas, Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Urban Economics, and Feminist Economics. My work has also been featured in outlets such as The New York Times and Scientific American.
My research has been recognized with the American Economic Association’s CSQIEP Award for Outstanding Research Paper in LGBTQ+ Economics and the Warren Samuels Prize from the Association for Social Economics.
In the classroom, I design inclusive courses that blend traditional lectures with collaborative activities and individual reflection. My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, engaging with peers, and applying economic concepts to real-world issues. I have taught Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Microeconomics, Labor Economics, Health Economics, and my specialty course, Race, Gender, Sexuality, and the Economy.
