In August 2006, the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation and the Port Authority in New York and New Jersey began the construction of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, finishing later the memorial five years. The Memorial is placed near the New World Trade Center, where rose the Twin Towers destroyed during the attacks of September 11 2001.The winner of the contest to build the World Trade Center Memorial was the architect Israeli-American Michael Arad of Handel Architects The monument was inaugurated with an official ceremony September 11 th 2011, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the attacks, and it was officially opened on May 15 th 2014. It opens from 7:30am to 9:00pm.
