Age at Migration and Health Shock Resilience
with Olof Åslund, Erik Grönqvist, and Oskar Nordström Skans
Health Economics, accepted
Using comprehensive data on the Swedish population, we document that massive age-specific immigrant-native hospitalization gaps during the COVID-19 pandemic were strongly related to host-country exposure during childhood. Exploiting variation between siblings, we test and systematically rule out several potential explanations for the role of host-country exposure: it is not attributable to (i) shared family characteristics (e.g., genetics), (ii) birthplace-specific factors, (iii) known pre-existing medical risk factors, (iv) social or economic segregation, or (v) differences in vaccination behavior.
Public Procurement, Job Security and Health: Evidence from the Railway Industry
I study how competitive procurement affects workers when public services are opened to competition. Using the gradual introduction of competitive procurement in Sweden's passenger railway sector and hand-collected data, I examine effects on workers' earnings, employment, and health, as well as changes in workforce composition.
Immigrant Integration and Workplace Health
with Olof Åslund, Theo Bodin (KI), and Wooseong Kim (KI)
We study whether immigrants are disproportionately employed in workplaces with poorer working conditions and whether this allocation changes with time spent in Sweden.
