Welcome to Healthy Start Inc., Pittsburgh

OUR MISSION

The mission of Healthy Start is to improve maternal and child health and to reduce poor birth outcomes and infant mortality in Allegheny County.

OUR VISION

Healthy Start provides support to women and children in need through free health programs and services in their communities.  Healthy Communities, Healthy Families, Healthy Babies, Healthy Start.

Who We Are

Healthy Start Inc. supports women, children, fathers, families and communities through comprehensive community-based programming, systems coordination, advocacy, research and training. Our programming spans Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties.

We are part of a network of more than 100 community-based Healthy Start projects across the United States. Our goal is to make sure all families have access to affordable, quality care to improve maternal and child health outcomes and quality of life.

We use a multidisciplinary team model which is inclusive of Community Health Workers, Certified Lactation Consultants and Counselors, Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educators, Certified Doulas, nurses, licensed mental health clinicians, researchers, Community Health Advocates and other public health practitioners who touch the entire community—galvanized in support of a vision where communities are devoid of health disparities and all babies have the opportunity to thrive.

We are a designated Best Babies Zone organization, and in collaboration with the Allegheny County Health Department Maternal Child Health Program, a participant in the CityMatCH Institute for Equity in Birth Outcomes (also known as the Equity Institute).

We work with local residents, medical providers, social service agencies, businesses and faith-based organizations to reduce the infant mortality rate (IMR) and the number of low birth weight babies born in Allegheny County each year.

How to Use this Portal

One wonderful benefit of using tools that are virtual is that information is made available to us in more ways than ever before.

Our team really want to have information available outside of the office to review and prepare while also being able to interact with their clients in a meaningful way for that client. Hopefully this tool allows you to stay up to date on information, policies and procedures in real time without accumulating a lot of paper.

We want this to be a less confusing way to be sure you are looking at what is the most up to date info for HSIPGH. We sincerely believe in having information available in multiple ways so people can interact with it in different ways.

To prepare for your participant interactions, please review the checklist and make sure you understand how to navigate this site.

This portal emphasizes three types of learning: Self Directed Learning, Structured Learning, Reflective Learning, and Focused Learning.

Self Directed Learning

Self directed learning is learning that you should do at your own pace. this also includes any things that you want to explore personally or things that you feel are relevant to your role or your personal role.

Self directed learning also includes anything that adds to your personal understanding beyond what we are able to touch on as a group.

Self directed learning in this portal includes articles and videos to enhance learning.

Structured Learning

Structured learning is learning that we do as group that has a specific outcome or goal for everyone. This type of learning is usually measured or assessed to make sure everyone has the same baseline and everyone has actually completed this work.

In this portal there are learning outcomes listed and homework assignment to assist with understanding what the goals of each lesson are.

Reflective Learning

Reflective learning is learning that reflects on what you already may or should know and builds on that knowledge. Reflective learning also includes learning based off of personal experiences or social norms.

Focused Learning

Focused learning is the idea that everything we do works together to focus on the goal we are trying to reach. We have homework assignments, group discussions, online modules; all in an effort to focus on the baseline core knowledge.

We all have different comfort levels with technology and if this is not going to work for you, we can send you documents by email so you don't feel overwhelmed. Our goal is to not create boundaries to learning this new skill.  Flexibility is one of the main advantages to being part of HSIPGH.

Please note all information shared here is for employees and should not be shared outside of the organization as referenced in the Non-Disclosure Agreement or NDA. Participants shall not be provided this site or allowed to pull information Directly from this site.
