I walked toward the glow, the gentle pattering of rain vibrating through the air as it met the soft, leafy ground. Each drop whispered against the earth, creating a rhythm that wrapped around me, sinking into my skin. My breath slowed, my mind started to relax. The marshland I had been through before now faded from my memory, with only a vague idea of its vibrant hues remaining. The glow ahead brightened, flickering like a beacon, and my mind began to wander. All I know is this Labyrinth, but sometimes I feel as though I lived a life before I became stuck here, a life the Darkness stripped away from me.
The rain deepened, slowly streaming through the hills and valleys, tracing winding paths between the trees. The sound of the rain on my overcoat slowly pulled me into a deep sleep. I hadn’t slept in a long time. It was possible to sleep in the labyrinth, I had done it before, but bedrooms were rare to find, and even when I came across them, I didn’t want to risk the chance of sleeping through the Dark. Because, when the Dark takes you, it makes you become a distant memory, until…
The glow softened, slowly pulsating through a small rectangular frame in the midst of the dark. Through the birch trees and the heavy rain, a small, wooden cabin emerged, with its windows flickering light. Above it, a chimney exhaled dark smoke, heating the air around me. I turned around, viewing the mist of the Darkness. It was very close, my memories of when the rain began had vanished, and the horizon seemed to disappear in a veil of Dark. If I stayed in the cabin, I risked the Darkness taking me, trapping me in a void. If I kept on going, would I ever find an end? What am I supposed to do in this Labyrinth, keep running away from the Darkness, or admit defeat?
