Kedarkantha Trekking Guide: Important Information
If you're looking for a winter stroll through the snow, The Great Himalayas invite you to the spectacular and well-known Kedarkantha trek. situated in the western Garhwal region of Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district. The base camp Sankri, a village in the Uttarkashi district situated at 6,400 feet inside the Govind wildlife sanctuary, marks the beginning of the mesmerising 25-kilometer Kedarkantha journey.
The journey starts in Dehradun. Around 198 kilometres separate Sankri village from Dehradun, and it takes 10 to 11 hours to reach there. The first public buses leave for Sankri at 5 and 7 a.m. Don't worry if you miss the bus; you can take a taxi or a connecting bus until Purola or Hanol, where you can change to another bus to get to Sankri. may travel in a shared jeep or a taxi.
If you don't want to take the bus, you can drive your own car the eight hours to Sankri or take a taxi. It's lovely to travel through picturesque towns, winding roads, pine and oak trees, snow-capped mountains, and lush green meadows. You can see the Tons river flowing next to you.
Trek from Delhi to Kedarkantha
If you want to get from Delhi to Sankri Base Camp, where the journey begins, you have three possibilities.
Option 1
To reach to Sankri from Delhi, use a taxi, cab, or your personal vehicle. It will take 12 to 13 hours and 430+ kilometres to go there via Dehradun, Mussoorie, and Naitwar. The roads between Delhi and Dehradun are in fair condition. Between Dehradun and Sankri, the road is unsteady and rocky for about 50 odd kilometers. There aren't many options there, so make reservations for both parking and lodging in advance.
Option 2
Take a train to Dehradun from the station in New Delhi. The top three are DEHRADUN EXP (12017), DDN JANSHTBDI (12055), NANDA DEVI EXP (12205), and MUSSOORIE EXP (14041). Most trains arrive before the sun rises.
On a local bus, in a shared taxi waiting outside the train station, or by hiring a private cab for your group, you can leave Dehradun at 5 and 7 a.m., respectively.
Option 3
From the RK Ashram Marg or Anand Vihar Metro stations in New Delhi, take a Volvo bus. These buses run until 6-7 pm from Rk Ashram and until 11 pm from Anand Vihar bus station.
At 5 and 7 am, respectively, you can board a local bus from Dehradun again. You can also hail a shared taxi outside the train station or hire a private cab for your group.
From Mumbai or the rest of India, there are two methods to go to the Kedarkantha trek. There are direct flights to Dehradun, where you can take a bus or a car to get to Sankri.
The second option is to arrange the aforementioned itinerary from Delhi via rail or aircraft.
The Kedarkantha Trek rises to a peak elevation of 12,500 feet from Sankri, its basecamp, which is at an altitude of 6,400 feet. On the Kedarkantha Trek, it takes 25 kilometres to hike through stunning trails in order to reach the summit. A 360-degree panoramic view will start to appear once you have Sankri.
When should one embark on the Kedarkantha Trek?
Few treks are accessible during the winter because of the heavy snowfall. The height of winter adventures, Kedarkantha's opposing side receives just enough snowfall for you to reach the peak at 12000 feet. From the middle of December until March, snowfall is probable.
The best time to visit this area will be during the peak winter months of December to April. Although you may go any month of the year, the best time to go is during the winter when the snow transforms the area into a winter wonderland. It includes magnificent campgrounds like Juda ka Talab and Har gaon where you may set your camp and enjoy the winter.
