And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.

And behold, one in the likeness of the children of man touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and I retain no strength.

And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, as the camp sets out, after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry these, but they must not touch the holy things, lest they die. These are the things of the tent of meeting that the sons of Kohath are to carry.

Or if anyone touches an unclean thing, whether a carcass of an unclean wild animal or a carcass of unclean livestock or a carcass of unclean swarming things, and it is hidden from him and he has become unclean, and he realizes his guilt;

Now compare the spines of these two Bibles. The In touch has raised ribs separating each section of writing, whereas the Allan is practically flat. The In Touch is also fairly flat on the spine and the Allan is curved. Notice that both of these Bibles are essentially the same height:

Here you can see the gilding (painted edges) on the In Touch. The color used on this Bible is silver, which is not a traditional color at all. Most premium Bibles either have gold gilt or red with gold gilt (which is considered to be the nicest by most). Cheap bibles usually have no gilding, or use an extremely thin gold gilt. Personally I think the silver looks outstanding with the dark navy blue calfskin shell. What do you think?

And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, [that ye] go [not] up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

Or if a soul touch any unclean thing, whether [it be] a carcase of an unclean beast, or a carcase of unclean cattle, or the carcase of unclean creeping things, and [if] it be hidden from him; he also shall be unclean, and guilty.

Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean [thing, as] the uncleanness of man, or [any] unclean beast, or any abominable unclean [thing], and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings, which [pertain] unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear [it]: but they shall not touch [any] holy thing, lest they die. These [things are] the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.

[Let] thine eyes [be] on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of [that] which the young men have drawn.

And the man said unto Joab, Though I should receive a thousand [shekels] of silver in mine hand, [yet] would I not put forth mine hand against the king's son: for in our hearing the king charged thee and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none [touch] the young man Absalom.

Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

And whithersoever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: and as many as touched him were made whole.

The Apocrypha books are 14 books that were included between the old and new testaments in the original King James Version of the bible and many others. Church leaders agreed that these books were valuable for instruction in life and manners, but did not all agree that they should be considered cannon.

The Childrens Bible provides bible lessons from the Old and New testaments. There are 216 stories written in plain english. The stories are easy to read and understand but they are not just for childern. It is a pleasure to read and enjoy these important stories.

Your review is complete and highlights the features of these bibles very well, I would know what to expect if I went shopping for either one. For utility, price, and longevity, the Hard bound bible makes the most sense. As it lays flat, it is most surely Smythe Sewn which promises long life. The covers are stiff enough to hold the bible for reading which is a good thing.

Now to the lovely calfskin version: it appears from your description, to be very well made with excellent materials, the type font is more than adequate and is easily read on the paper chosen. Now to the faults, as I see them. This appears to be a bible of substantial size, the binding for the hard bound is fine, but the cover of the calfskin bible is way to soft to support the text while reading with it in one hand. If seated, the bible will rest on the abdomen due to fatigue in just a few minutes, damaging the lower margins of the pages and covers. A stiffer cover would not require Dr. Stanley to fold up his bible risking damage to the pages, I know that this is a common practice, but it does crumple pages and strains the binding.

Both versions have serious shortcomings for me. I would miss my cross references badly, I use them heavily when attempting to get the sense of a verse. I am happy there is no commentary, I view commentary prejudicial to the reading of the text, if one is going to use commentary it should be after one has done his work with cross references, appendices, and concordance. I did not see any mention of maps or concordance so this is a text only bible, not necessarily a bad thing. About marking bibles: I as a student had many classes that required as much as 14 books, I highlighted and made notes in these books, over the years of my career as a student probably more than 200 of them some of them fine editions and expensive. I returned later to check different things, and was amazed at all the mark-ups, in most cases I wondered why I did it. These mark-ups were prejudicial to further reading, something I had to consciously avoid in order to get a clean reading. I recommend that students of the bible use notebooks for their notes and leave the text as is for further reading perhaps years later.

I believe that this beautiful bible you have reviewed has uses that many will appreciate, but setting aside the issue of translation, it is not for me, it is too flexible, too large, and without cross references.

Bringing into bodily contact of one thing with another. The Hebrew naga [[;g"n] and Greek hapto [a&ptomai] (-omai) are the main biblical terms for "touch." In addition to the many ordinary uses, they embrace several important theological themes.

The Old Testament. God's Touch as All-Powerful. The Old Testament depicts God's supremacy through the image of touch in several ways. Although God created all things by his spoken word ( Gen 1 ), Genesis 2:7, 21-22 pictures him as personally shaping man and woman from the dust of the earth. Expressions such as God touches "the earth and it melts" ( Amos 9:5 ) and "the mountains, and they smoke" ( Psalm 104:32 ; 144:5 ) describe his supreme power over the created order. In contrast, idols are powerless. They are insensible, unable to touch: "they have hands, but cannot feel" ( Psalm 115:7 ).

The biblical expression "to lay hands on" can mean to exact vengeance on. God is so pictured in judging Egypt ( Exod 7:4 ), Israel ( Jer 15:6 ), and the nations ( Eze 39:21 ). Trust in the wicked cannot ward off the touch of a divine scourge ( Isa 28:15 ; Jer 14:15 ). Conversely, whoever touches God's people "touches the apple of his eye" ( Zec 2:8 ) and will themselves be punished.

Touching and Moral Cleanness. Old Testament laws governing ceremonial cleanness prohibit touching unclean things, mainly food ( Lev 11 ; Deut 14:1-21 ), bodily discharges ( Lev 15 ), and corpses ( Num 19 ). They had hygienic and religious significance in preventing the spread of disease and in distinguishing Israel from her ancient contemporaries, who had no laws against many of these unclean practices. They ultimately reveal, however, something of God's holy and gracious character and the sinful condition of humanity. On the one hand, God's holiness was severe: upon the threat of immediate death, no one was to touch Mount Sinai while God's glory was upon it ( Exod 19:12 ) or the sacred furnishings of the tabernacle except Aaron and his sons ( Num 4:15 ; cf. 2 Sam 6:6-7 ). On the other hand, God graciously gave these prohibitions (cf. Lev 27:34 ) to provide a way for sinful people to approach him. The link to moral purity is evident in Leviticus 7:21: "if anyone touches something unclean and then eats any of the meat of the fellowship offering , that person must be cut off from his people." These laws helped clarify the terms of purification by which one could come to God and, in turn, God's expectations for the continuing moral cleanness of his people. e24fc04721
