Tombstone is one of the last boomtowns of the American Frontier. Founded in 1879, the population grew from 100 to 14,000 in 7 years due to silver mining. In addition to 4 churches, a school, banks and other amenities, the town had 125 saloons and gambling halls along many dance halls and brothels. Today it is a tourist destination most famous for the legendary Gunfight at OK Corral which has been fodder for many movies. It is a fun place to visit.
A 1/2 hour drive from Tombstone is the town of Bisbee. Incorporated in 1902, it was another mining town in the region. The town has a rich history. It is worth a visit if you enjoy western history.
