If you want ultra-thin, low-profile audio that integrates seamlessly into custom headwear for high-movement activities like exercise, choose TOOKS Gen3; if you need a classic, nostalgic aesthetic with plush padding for stationary listening sessions, choose BWESOO Black Retro Over-Ear.
• TOOKS Gen3: Its biggest strength is the 0.2-inch ultra-thin profile designed specifically to fit inside audio beanies and headbands without bulk; its trade-off is the lack of wireless capability and no built-in controls, requiring a direct wired connection to your device. This pick is for athletes or active users who need unobtrusive audio gear that stays put during intense movement.
• BWESOO Black Retro Over-Ear: Its standout feature is the vintage-inspired design paired with soft, padded ear cups for extended comfort in a traditional over-ear form factor; its trade-off is the standard size and lack of specialized mounting options for headwear, making it less ideal for high-intensity sports. This pick is for music enthusiasts who prioritize style, nostalgia, and a relaxed listening environment over portability.
The TOOKS Gen3 headphones are engineered for a very specific use case: they are not standalone units but rather upgrade components designed to fit directly into Tooks audio beanies and headbands. If you are someone who values minimalism above all else, especially when moving around, this is the solution. The 0.2-inch thickness is a critical specification here; it allows the speakers to sit flush against the head without creating pressure points or slipping out of a beanie's lining. For anyone using these for exercise, the low-profile design ensures that nothing bulky gets in the way of a sweatband, a helmet, or the natural movement of your head during a run or workout.
These headphones utilize dynamic drivers capable of a frequency response from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, which suggests a full range of sound reproduction despite their diminutive size. The inclusion of cushioned speakers adds a layer of comfort that is essential for active wear, preventing the hard plastic or metal components from irritating the skin during prolonged physical activity. However, the trade-off is significant for those who prefer modern conveniences. There is no wireless technology here; you are tethered by a standard 3.5mm jack. Furthermore, there are no remote controls or volume buttons on the unit itself. You must control playback and volume directly from your phone or music player. This simplicity is a feature for purists who don't want electronics failing them mid-workout, but it is a hurdle for anyone used to tapping a headset to skip tracks.

Who should buy this? Anyone looking for the best headphones for exercise who needs something that disappears into their gear. It is perfect for the user who wants to listen to music while running, cycling, or hitting the gym without the hassle of over-ear clamps or wires dangling. Who should skip it? If you need a standalone pair of headphones to wear over clothes, or if you require Bluetooth connectivity and on-device controls, this product will feel too restrictive. It is a component, not a complete accessory for casual home use.
The BWESOO Black Retro Over-Ear headphones tell a different story entirely. They are built to evoke the feeling of the 80s and 90s, combining a sleek black finish with a rounded, vintage aesthetic that stands out as a fashion statement. These are traditional over-ear headphones, meaning they enclose the entire ear rather than resting lightly on top. The enclosure material, Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE), suggests a durable yet flexible build, and the soft, padded ear cups are explicitly designed for long listening sessions. If you spend hours sitting at a desk, commuting on a train, or relaxing at home, the comfort factor here is likely superior to the thin profile of the TOOKS Gen3.
In terms of performance, these headphones also feature dynamic drivers with a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, matching the bandwidth of the TOOKS unit. This means you can expect clear highs and deep lows suitable for Hi-Fi stereo playback. The "Retro" theme extends beyond just looks; the lightweight construction makes them easy to carry in a bag, and the wired 3.5mm connection ensures compatibility with almost any mobile phone or playback device without battery anxiety. However, the "foldable" aspect often desired for travel isn't explicitly detailed in the data, so you should assume they are a fixed structure compared to more modern folding designs. They are portable, yes, but they occupy space and do not integrate into other apparel.
This product fits the person who appreciates the tactile experience of vintage audio gear. It is ideal for someone who wants to make a style choice with their tech. The adjustable headband allows for a customized fit, which is crucial for the over-ear design to ensure the pads seal correctly around the ears for better sound isolation. While they lack the specialized integration of the TOOKS Gen3, they offer a more immersive, traditional headphone experience. They are not optimized for the chaotic motion of a sprint or a heavy workout, where an over-ear design might shift or bounce. Instead, they shine in environments where stability and style are paramount.

After weighing the specifications and intended use cases, I would choose the TOOKS Gen3 if my primary goal was fitness and active lifestyle usage. The 0.2-inch profile is a game-changer for anyone trying to listen to music while running or working out; it eliminates the friction and bulk that usually come with over-ear headphones. However, for general daily listening where style and comfort are the priorities, the BWESOO Black Retro Over-Ear offers a much richer, more satisfying experience with its vintage charm and plush padding. In my opinion, if you are buying a pair of foldable in ear headphones for exercise, the TOOKS Gen3 is the only logical choice because it solves the specific problem of weight and fit that standard headphones cannot address.
