Submission Guidelines

General Guidelines:

  • The submitter must currently be enrolled at the UPR Río Piedras Campus. 

  • We only accept previously unpublished and original work.

  • Works submitted may be authored in either English, Spanish or hybrid forms of said languages.

  • Submissions must be submitted via the Google Form at the bottom of the page.

  • Calls for submissions happen in March of every year.


Poetry:

  • Submit up to 3 poems; the submission must be no longer than 10 pages in total.

  • Please submit all poems in individual documents labeled only with the poem’s title.

  • Do not include your name in the piece document. The student's information will be registered in the google form.

Short Stories, Creative Essays, and One-Act Plays:

  • Submit up to 2 works, each work limited to 2,500 words.

  • Please submit all works in individual documents labeled only with the piece’s title.

  • Do not include your name in the piece document. The student's information will be registered in the google form.


Visual Art:

  • Submit no more than 3 pieces of artwork.

  • You will be asked to add the medium used for your art piece.

  • Digital art quality must be 300ppi.


***Please refrain from sending in multiple submissions per genre (poetry; short stories/creative essays/one-act plays; visual arts). You may only send in one submission at a time per genre.***


Important Information:


You will be asked to include contact and personal information (name, email, faculty) and submission information (title of work(s) submitted; genre; stylistic specifications). All written works should be submitted in docx. format. The author’s name must not appear in the submitted piece to guarantee impartiality during the selection process. 

Please also fill out, sign, and include in your submitted form this statement to certify that you agree with Tonguas Magazine's terms and conditions. We will acquire first time publishing rights, and all the other rights will revert back to the author once published on our website, though we do ask you to acknowledge Tonguas Magazine. All works remain on our website or in our archive.
