Set in a world filled with cartoon anthropomorphic mice, we follow private investigator for hire, Jack Pepper, as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of a famous magician. But things go nuts fast when it spirals into a full-blown conspiracy aimed at shaking the whole world. Grabs your guns, and follow Jack as he aims to discover the truth behind a myriad of mysteries that get more wacky as he goes on. 

The visual component of the game is by far its most distinctive feature, as it blends the Rubberhose animation style of cartoons like Steamboat Willy and applies it to a 3D world. Almost all the enemies and NPCs in the game, as well as the guns you use in the game, are 2D styled sprites, while everything else is a cartoonish 3D world. Its style stands out, making exploring the game and shooting things a lot more fun and memorable. 

Gameplay mainly consists of going from point A to point B as you fight from one point to the next, often interacting with puzzles and characters every now and then to spice things up. If you are a fan of the gameplay of classic Doom, you’ll love the shoot-em-up gameplay of Mouse: PI For Hire. Armor and health are scattered throughout the levels, and the varying enemy variety allows for a good mix-up of combat. Also scattered throughout the level are a variety of collectibles, ranging from comic strips to newspapers, that expand on the cartoonishly wacky world. 

Overall, fans of classic “boomer shooters” will get a good kick out of Mouse: PI For Hire. From the outstanding visuals to the great gunplay, humor, and cartoonishly wacky world. This game is definitely worth checking out.
