Privacy Policy — Tomate

This privacy policy applies to the Tomate mobile application for Android ("the App"), published by Afonso Sousa ("the Developer"). The App is provided free of charge and is offered "as is".
Tomate has no accounts, no sign-in and no server of its own. Your tasks, timer sessions, statistics and settings are stored only on your device. The Developer does not receive them, cannot read them, and has no copy of them.
The only data that leaves your device is data collected by Google in order to serve advertisements, and the information Google Play needs to process an optional in-app purchase. Both are described below.
The App stores the following locally, using Android's standard app storage:
Tasks you create: title, notes, repeat cadence, scheduled day and time window, progress and completion history.
Completed focus sessions: date, time and duration, and the task a session was attached to.
App settings: timer durations, mode, theme, notification times, sound, language and similar preferences.
If you enable app blocking: the list of apps you chose to allow or block.
One-off flags used to remember that you have seen an introduction or a prompt, and to remember an in-app purchase.
This data is never transmitted to the Developer. It is removed when you uninstall the App or clear its data from Android settings.
The App does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, files, precise or approximate location, or the contents of any other app. It contains no analytics SDK and no crash-reporting SDK. The Developer does not maintain a mailing list and does not send marketing messages.
Non-paying users may see advertisements in the task list. Advertisements are served by Google AdMob, which is operated by Google. To serve and measure advertisements, Google may collect and process information from your device, including your device's advertising identifier, IP address, device and operating-system details, and interactions with the advertisements shown (such as views and taps). Advertisements may be personalised based on this information.
The Developer does not receive this information in an identifiable form and receives only aggregate performance reports from Google.

You can limit ad personalisation at any time in Android under Settings > Google > Ads, where you can also reset or delete your advertising identifier.
Purchasing the one-time "Supporter" in-app purchase permanently removes advertisements from the App.
The App offers a single optional, one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase ("Supporter"), which removes advertisements and unlocks additional themes, extended statistics ranges and controls on the ongoing timer notification.
Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing. The App never sees or stores your payment card, billing address or Google account details. The Developer receives only the transactional and payout information Google Play provides to developers, which does not identify you personally. The App stores locally a single flag recording that the purchase is active, and asks Google Play to restore that entitlement when you reinstall.

Notifications: to show the ongoing timer, session-end alerts, reminders for tasks you scheduled, and daily summaries. All are generated on your device.
Exact alarms: so a reminder for a time window you chose arrives at the time you chose.
Foreground service and wake lock: so a running timer keeps running while the App is in the background or the screen is off.
Do Not Disturb access (optional): so the App can silence your device during a focus session, if you turn that option on.
Usage access and display-over-other-apps (optional, off by default): used only by the app-blocking feature. When you enable it and a focus session is running, the App checks which app is currently in the foreground so it can show a full-screen reminder over apps you chose to block. This check happens entirely on your device. The names of the apps you use are not recorded, stored beyond the moment of the check, or transmitted anywhere. Your blocklist is stored only on your device. Turning the feature off, or revoking the permission in Android settings, stops the check completely.
Run at startup: to re-arm your scheduled reminders after a reboot.
Internet: required to load advertisements and to communicate with Google Play for purchases. No other network connection is made.
The App can export your tasks, completions, session history and settings to a JSON file that you save yourself, and can import such a file back. The file is written to a location you choose on your device. It is not uploaded anywhere, and the Developer has no access to it. You are responsible for the file once it is saved, including if you copy it to cloud storage.
Android's own system backup may include the App's stored data if you have that feature enabled for your device. That backup is governed by Google's terms, not by the Developer.
If you use the in-app option to contact the Developer, the App opens your own email application with a message you write yourself. For bug reports, the message body is pre-filled with the App version and your Android version, so the problem can be reproduced. Nothing is sent until you send it. Emails you send are retained only for as long as needed to answer them.
If you choose to leave feedback through the rating prompt, the same applies: the text is placed in an email that you send yourself.
The App is a general-audience productivity tool. It is not directed to children under 13, and the Developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Advertising in the App is not configured for child-directed treatment. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, contact the Developer at the address below and it will be deleted.
Where local law requires it, you must be at least 16 years old to consent to the processing described here, or have a parent or guardian consent on your behalf.
Data stored by the App is kept on your device until you delete it in the App, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App. There is no server-side copy for the Developer to delete. For data held by Google in connection with advertising or purchases, refer to Google's policies linked above.
Because the App stores your data on your device and the Developer holds no copy of it, you control it directly:
Access and portability: use Export in the App to obtain all your data as a JSON file.
Erasure: delete items in the App, clear the App's data in Android settings, or uninstall the App.
Stop all advertising data collection: purchase Supporter, or uninstall the App.
Limit ad personalisation: Android Settings > Google > Ads, where you can also reset or delete your advertising identifier.
Stop app-blocking checks: turn off app blocking in the App, or revoke usage access in Android settings.
For data processed by Google in connection with advertising or purchases, exercise your rights through Google using the links above.
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data stays in the App's private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps. No credentials or payment details are stored by the App. No transmission or storage method is completely secure, and the Developer cannot guarantee absolute security.
This policy may be updated. Changes are published on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
