Overview
TokenLens is a browser extension that runs exclusively on claude.ai. We built it with a single principle: your data is yours, full stop. This policy explains exactly what the extension touches, what it sends anywhere, and why.
What We Collect
Nothing. TokenLens collects no data from you. No account, no signup, no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reports. We run no servers and have no backend that could receive your data.
There is one narrow exception: if you buy TokenLens Pro, the extension checks your license key with Gumroad (see “TokenLens Pro and Gumroad” below). Nothing else leaves your browser.
What TokenLens Reads and Keeps on Your Device
All of the following is processed locally in your browser and never sent to us or anyone else:
Usage quota data: fetched from claude.ai’s own API on your behalf and shown to you.
Token, cost and speed estimates: calculated locally from your conversation text, token counts and public API pricing.
Your chats: to power search, saving and exporting, and “continue in a new chat”, TokenLens reads the titles and messages of your conversations from claude.ai using your own logged-in session. It builds a search index in your browser’s local storage. Exports (Markdown, PDF, Text, JSON, ZIP) are created in your browser and saved to your computer.
Usage history: periodic snapshots of your 5-hour and 7-day usage percentages, used for history charts, alerts and the pace estimate.
Preferences, free-trial progress and license status.
You can delete the index and history at any time with Settings → “Delete my saved data”. Removing the extension removes everything stored in your browser.
How We Access claude.ai
TokenLens injects a content script into claude.ai pages only. It intercepts the page’s own network requests (the same requests your browser was already making) to read usage quota responses from Anthropic’s API, and it reads your conversations through your own session when you use search, save or continue-in-new-chat. This happens entirely inside your browser. No request is modified, redirected, or duplicated to any third party.
TokenLens Pro and Gumroad
TokenLens Pro is a one-time purchase sold through Gumroad. You pay on Gumroad’s website. TokenLens never sees or handles your card or payment details, and Gumroad’s own privacy policy applies to what Gumroad collects. After you buy, Gumroad emails you a license key.
When you activate Pro, the extension sends your license key and TokenLens’s product identifier to Gumroad’s license service (api.gumroad.com) to confirm the key is valid and has not been refunded or charged back. It repeats this check about once a week. Like any web request, it exposes your IP address to Gumroad. Nothing else is sent: no chat content, no usage data, no personal information.
Gumroad’s reply contains purchase details. TokenLens uses only whether the key is valid, how many times it has been activated, and whether the purchase was refunded or charged back. It discards the rest and never stores or forwards it.
Chrome asks your permission once for api.gumroad.com when you first activate. You can remove that permission at any time in your browser’s extension settings, but Pro then cannot re-verify and will switch off after a grace period.
As the seller, I can see purchase details in my Gumroad account, such as your email address and country, as any seller can. I use them only to deliver and support your purchase and process refunds.
Free Trial and Chrome Sync
New installs get a free trial of all features. TokenLens tracks the trial by recording which days you used it. Your license key (if you activate one) and trial dates are saved in Chrome’s sync storage, so Pro works on your other signed-in browsers and the trial cannot be restarted by reinstalling. Chrome syncs this through your Google account under Google’s own policies, and we have no access to it.
Third Parties
TokenLens does not share your data with anyone, and does not:
Use any analytics service (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Sentry)
Include any advertising SDK or tracking pixel
Sell your data or use it for anything unrelated to the features above
The only third parties involved are:
Gumroad, for purchases and license checks, as described above.
Google, for Chrome sync, as described above.
Optional links. If you click a review or feedback button, a Chrome Web Store or Google Forms page opens in a new tab. A short survey page also opens when you uninstall. TokenLens sends no data to these pages. Anything you type into a form goes only to that form.
Data Retention
We hold no data about you. Data on your device stays until you delete it (Settings → “Delete my saved data”, removing your license on the unlock page, or uninstalling). Gumroad keeps purchase records under its own policy, and I keep purchase records in my Gumroad account as long as needed for support, refunds and legal obligations.
Children’s Privacy
TokenLens is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the updated version will be published here with a revised date at the top. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
