This policy explains what data the Today weather app ("the app", "we") accesses, why, how it's handled, and what choices you have. The app is developed and published by an individual developer, not a company.
Information we collect
Location (optional)
If you grant the location permission, the app reads your device's approximate (coarse) location — accurate to roughly city/neighborhood level, not exact GPS coordinates — to show weather for where you currently are.
- The app never requests precise/fine location.
- Location is read only while the app is open and in use; there is no background location access.
- Your location is not stored by the app and is not linked to any identity — it is used once per lookup, purely to determine which city's weather to fetch.
- You can deny this permission and still use the app by manually searching for a city instead. You can revoke the permission at any time from your device's Settings → Apps → Today → Permissions.
Saved cities
When you search for and save a city, its name is stored locally on your device only — never uploaded to a server we control. This is what lets the app show your saved cities again the next time you open it.
- You can remove any saved city at any time from within the app.
- Uninstalling the app permanently deletes this locally stored data.
Information sent to our weather data provider
To display weather, the app sends either your approximate coordinates or a city name to OpenWeatherMap (openweathermap.org), a third-party weather data provider, and displays their response. As with any internet request,
standard technical information (such as your IP address) is visible to OpenWeatherMap as the request's recipient — the app does not add any additional identifying information to these requests. OpenWeatherMap's own data
practices are described at their privacy policy: https://openweathermap.org/privacy-policy
We do not control, and are not responsible for, how OpenWeatherMap or any other third party handles data once it reaches their systems.
What we don't do
- No account creation, sign-in, or user profiles of any kind.
- No advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.
- No analytics, crash-reporting, or behavioral-tracking SDKs.
- We never sell your data or share it with anyone beyond OpenWeatherMap, and only as described above.
Data security
All network requests made by the app use HTTPS (encrypted in transit). Saved-city data stored on your device is only accessible to the app itself, subject to your device's own operating-system protections.
Your choices and rights
- Location permission: grant, deny, or revoke at any time via your device's system settings.
- Saved cities: view and delete individually within the app at any time.
- All app data: uninstalling the app removes everything the app stored locally, immediately and completely.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the relevant age in your region) and does not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided data through this app, contact us using the details below
and we will address it.
International users
The app itself does not transfer your data internationally, since it does not operate its own servers. Requests you make are sent directly from your device to OpenWeatherMap, whose infrastructure may be located outside your
country — see their privacy policy for details on their data handling and locations.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a revised "Last updated" date above.
