Toby Shevlane

I am a Research Scientist on Google DeepMind's AGI Strategy & Governance team. I am interested in AI governance and safety.

My doctoral research, at the University of Oxford, was about the risks of AI proliferation, with case studies on the release of GPT-2 and GPT-3. I worked part time as a researcher at the Centre for the Governance of AI.

I have a BA in Law from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation from the University of Oxford. I previously worked as a Judicial Assistant in the Court of Appeal for England & Wales.
