Toan Nguyen is a research fellow at the Development Policy Centre, Crawford School of Public Policy at ANU, and a visiting lecturer in economics at the University of Papua New Guinea. Before this, he held academic roles at the University of Queensland and Curtin University. His main research focuses are labour economics (especially migration) and development economics. 

Toan’s work has been published in journals like European Economic Review, Health Economics, Demography, Labour Economics, The World Economy, and Social Science & Medicine, among others. 

He has been an Associate Editor for Asian-Pacific Economic Literature since 2023. As of February 2025, he also convenes the Crawford School Economics PhD seminar series.
