Teaching Tip Tuesday Resources 2021-22

Every Tuesday morning, our staff briefing is given over to Teaching Tip Tuesday where best practice, new ideas and research are shared with all staff. Staff are giving the opportunity to share their ideas and develop their own practice.

Tuesday 5th of July, 2022.

Shonagh took inspiration from Nikki’s’ teach meet to showcase what she did with her classUsing the templates Nikki sent out from the latest Teach Meet, Shonagh created key character cards for the play 'A streetcar named desire". These were stuck under the chairs and students had to go around the room for 3 minutes and interview one another to retrieve as much information as they could. Once this was done, they had to produce all their ideas on a knowledge organiser. Finally they had to make inferences and deductions about what the big concepts and themes most likely to appear based on the information.

The second comes again from Tom Sherrington’s blog looking at 5 ways to build confidence for a learner.

Tuesday 28th of June, 2022.

This week's teahcing tip focused on the article from Tom Sherrington on how to scaffold classroom dialogue which feeds really nicely into oracy

His steps are full sentences – step up the vocab – sequence the ideas – express an opinion and comparison and analysis.

Two great resources this week from Ms Claridge. The first is Slidesmania which  is a fantastic site for Google Slides templates. As well as a huge range of designs for regular presentations, they have some school bundles for interactive tasks that work beautifully as Google Classroom lessons/home learning

Ms Claridge is also using Wordle for keywords

Attached a battleships game for retrieval practice the example is for history but the game is editable to put your own subject questions into.

Thank you to Hayley who has produced some excellent discussion cards to further support form time debates

Attached are 6 role cards

There is a discussion topic/s given to students: can money buy you happiness (this week's oracy discussion for instance but would work for pretty much anything).

Thank you to both Hayley and Doug for this weeks resources!

Hayley created a language-based recall activity for her 11s. Which she used as a starter activity.

I asked HoFs to look at personalising the WWW banners the idea for this is to enable the students to clearly link the prior learning with what they are doing in the lesson and in future lessons.  If the students are able to understand the ‘learning journey’ the lessons will be more relevant, and learning will be more effective.

The aim is that in all of our projected  lessons we would use a similar template to enable us to support the students in making these links. And in every other lesson we would verbalise from the poster.
