In this lesson TianMei tells the story of five blind people 盲人 (Mángrén) who try to describe an elephant 象 (Xiàng) by touch 摸 (Mō) for the king 国王 (Guówáng).
Once upon a time there was an elephant in a king's house in China. One day he rode the elephant on the street, and suddenly saw five blind men resting on the roadside, and the king ordered them to come and asked them, "Do you know what the elephant is like?"
The blind men shook their heads and said, "Dear Majesty, we do not know."
The king laughed: "Then you will touch it, and tell me what the elephant is like."
The blinds quickly touched the elephant. A blind man touched the ivory, "Your Majesty, I know what the elephant is like, the elephant is like a tooth."
"Do you all silly? The elephant is most like a rice pan, very interesting." The second blind man is gently stroking the elephant's ear.
Another blind man touched the elephant legs, "No right, elephant like a big pillar, tall and thick."
The fourth blind man happened to touch the elephant 's body, "you are not right, the elephant is like a big wall, thick, flat.
"No wrong, you are wrong. Elephants like a rope, soft, thin." The fifth blind man to seize the elephant's tail proudly said.
The king and the people around him listened to the blind words and laughed. Children, you say blind people right? Do you know what the elephant is like?
