The Law Magnet Debate Team is one of the oldest and most successful programs in DISD. Under the guidance of former coach Kris Wright, the team qualified for the prestigious Tournament of Champions and won the TFA state championship. Today, Law continues to maintain a local, state, and national presence, competing in multiple debate and speech events. Most recently, Law Debate won the Bronze Medal at the UIL speech/debate championship, two years in a row. Debate has qualified to NAUDL nationals multiple times, winning third in 2021. Debate has travel opportunities for those that qualify - last year nationals was hosted in Chicago, IL.

The debate coaches at Law are Ms. Gregg and Ms. Lee. Students can participate in the after-school club program or the debate class, no experience required. Debate is completely free of charge for participants, including supplies, food, entry fees, etc., and we do not hold try-outs. We participate in about 4 competitions a semester, most of which have no qualification process, so any student can participate. Come to a meeting and see if it's for you!
