On Facebook, the UP OUTLaws released a Statement of Solidarity for the Urgent Passage of the SOGIESC Equality Bill. The statement was indicated signed by 15 student formations from the College of Law, University of the Philippines. Below excerpts the Call to Action of the statement.
A Call to Action
To the Members of the LGBTQIA+ Community, Allies, Supporters, our Families, and Friends, amid the celebration for the milestones we've had, may we maintain our watchful stance, we need to see this bill through.
To the Members of Congress, inasmuch as we acknowledge the presence of differences in beliefs, we strongly urge your kind offices to be guided by the following principles in the performance of your Constitutional mandate:
The Constitutional guarantee for equal protection;
The State policy for full respect for human rights;
The inviolability of the separation of the Church and the State;
The principle of secular morality, that the morality referred to in law, and therefore in the performance of the public mandate, shall be necessarily secular and not religious. That while it may or may not allude to specific religious sensibilities, it must ultimately serve a legitimate secular purpose; and
The international obligations on equal protection and non-discrimination on basis of sex.
Wherefore, Congress is urged to pass the SOGIESC Equality Bill NOW!
