The California Teachers Association exists to protect and promote the well-being of its members; to improve the conditions of teaching and learning' to advance the cause of free, universal, and quality public education for all students; to ensure that the human dignity and civil rights of all children, youth and adults are protected; and to secure a more just, equitable, and democratic society.
A Service Center Council is a group of chapter leaders within specific geographical boundaries. It is a resource for local chapters and CTA members. Its main function is to be a liaison between the State Council of Education and local chapter affiliations. It is not considered part of the policy-making and/or governing structure of CTA.
Meeting at least once prior to each State Council meeting (one SCC meeting and one Steering Committee meeting)
Providing a center for exchange of information and discussion of actions under consideration by State Council
Serving as a forum on issues referred through Governance, by Council and/or Board action
Coordinating membership participation in regional CTA activities, including workshops, elections, and political activities
Assisting in identification of priorities and evaluation of regional program and service needs, and refer concerns from chapters to Governance
