Science Fair
The Science Fair empowers students to explore the world around them, spark curiosity, and to share their knowledge and interests with the TJS community. Open to first grade and above, the Science Fair provides students with the opportunity to get hands-on experience breaking down the scientific method, while learning about a topic of interest. Students have the option to work independently or within small teams. Ideas can come from a number of science-related subjects, including but not limited to Earth Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology and Electronics. The PTO provides students with poster boards to display their work which will then be presented at the fair for the TJS community to view.

5 Parent Tips for The TJS Science Fair
Encourage your child to choose a partner based on interest rather than friendship. This is a great opportunity to spend time with someone new!
Be present in the process- if you’re hosting, stay nearby and provide guidance only when absolutely necessary. With time, students can generally solve their own problems but it’s good to have a sense of what’s going on.
Take time to read and reread the instructions with your child and his/her group carefully throughout the process. This is a great way to stay involved and give necessary reminders/feedback.
Make sure students complete the project! It’s tempting to jump in and make things look good, but then it becomes a parent project. Let the students create everything on their own. They will take more ownership and pride in their work.
Have fun watching your child learn more about new science concepts, cooperation, creative problem solving and teamwork. Enjoy the process!
