Enough

ENOUGH IS A SELF PORTRAIT CREATED IN A MOMENT OF CREATIVE DOUBT IN DIRECTION AND PURPOSE. I QUESTIONED MY ARTISTIC FUTURE AND TRUE MOTIVATION. I LOST MYSELF IN CONCEPTUAL APPLICATION AND THE FEAR OF FAILURE. I BROUGHT MY WORK BACK ITS ROOTS, THE ORIGINS. SELF EXPRESSION.

THE SELF PORTRAIT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A WAY FOR ME TO EXAMINE MYSELF, DEVELOP MY SKILLS AND UNDERSTAND MARK MAKING AS A MEANS OF EXPRESSION. WHILST QUESTIONING MY ARTISTIC DEVELOPMENT I ASKED MYSELF IF A MERE SELF PORTRAIT IS ENOUGH TO SAY ALL I WANTED TO SAY AS AN ARTIST. AFTER REPEATING THE QUESTION SEVERAL TIMES I TOLD MYSELF, " IT IS ENOUGH ".

THESE WORDS STUCK WITH ME THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE CREATION OF THIS PIECE. A MANTRA, AN INTERNAL MOTIVATOR BORN IN THE FIRE OF SELF CRITICISM AND DOUBT, LEADING TO MY PERSONAL CREATIVE LIBERATION.

Struggle

STRUGGLE IS A MAP OF THE WORLD CONSTRUCTED OF PEOPLE. IT A MICROCOSM OF HUMAN NATURE AND INTERACTION, MY INTEREST IN THIS SUBJECT LED TO THE CREATION OF THIS WORK. THE NAKED BODIES WRITHE AND STRUGGLE BETWEEN EACH OTHER, COMPETING FOR SPACE AND DOMINANCE. ELSEWHERE SOME BODIES ARE HELPING, HOLDING AND COMFORTING ONE ANOTHER.

ALL ELEMENTS OF HUMAN NATURE ARE EVIDENT IN THIS SOCIAL MALAISE. THE INDIVIDUALS ARE LOST IN THE MASS WHICH TAKES THE APPEARANCE OF A LARGER ORGANISM. THE ARTWORK IS A FORM OF OPEN SURGERY EXPOSING OUR BASE NATURE. THE MASS OF BODIES TAKE THE FORM OF CONTINENTS, REVEALING THE UNIVERSAL STRUGGLE.
