New features in WorldServer Components
One of the new features in SDL Trados Studio 2017 Professional is the improved integration with WorldServer, a web-based translation management system that enables enterprises to centralize and automate their translation processes. With this feature, Trados Studio can handle WorldServer packages in a similar way as it handles Trados Studio project packages. You can update local WorldServer packages with more recent versions of the same package, without having to create a separate project in Trados Studio. Moreover, subsequent downloads from the same WorldServer project group with new or updated task files are merged or added to the existing Studio project. Translation memories, terminology databases, and project and task attributes are also updated or added to the same Studio project, while attribute names are prefixed with their corresponding target locale for clarity. This feature simplifies the workflow and reduces the risk of errors when working with WorldServer projects in Trados Studio.
New Microsoft Excel 2007-2016 file type
Another new feature in SDL Trados Studio 2017 Professional is the new Microsoft Excel 2007-2016 file type, which is not enabled by default. To enable it, you need to go to the list of file types in File > Options > File Types and move the new filter (Microsoft Excel 2007-2016) above the legacy one (Microsoft Excel 2007-2013) and make sure that the box next to it is checked. This new file type offers better support for translating Excel files, such as:
Real-time preview: You can preview your translated Excel files in real time under the Target tab in the real-time preview view part in Trados Studio 2017. This real-time preview has been designed in such a way that it opens a separate Microsoft Excel application and will update the target spreadsheet there. This feature allows you to see how your translation will look like in the final output and make adjustments accordingly.
Translatable alternative text and specific context information for Excel form controls: You can now translate the alternative text and access specific context information for Excel form controls, such as buttons, check boxes, drop-down lists, etc. This feature helps you to provide more accurate and consistent translations for these elements.
Other new features and enhancements
In addition to the above-mentioned features, SDL Trados Studio 2017 Professional also includes other new features and enhancements that improve the quality and efficiency of translation, such as:
XLIFF 1.2 file type: Added better support for annotates and state-qualifier attributes. Added support for embedded content processing.
XLIFF 2.0 file type: Added basic support for track changes and Translation Quality Assessment (TQA).
XML file type: Enhancements and fixes to whitespace normalisation. Support for previewing DITA 1.3 files.
FrameMaker file type: Added support for FrameMaker 2017 files.
SDL Trados Studio 2017 Professional is a powerful and versatile tool that can help you to deliver high-quality translations in multiple languages with ease and efficiency.
