Earlier this year, NTDEV (@NTDEV_ on Twitter) released tiny10 2303 for those needing a lightweight and modern Windows 10 edition with a small disk footprint and the latest updates. The initial release was only available in the x86 or 32-bit flavor, aiming at customers with low-end hardware incapable of running the stock Windows 10 or 11. Fast forward a few months, and now tiny10 2303 or "23H1" is available in the x64 format with all the benefits of its "smaller" sibling.

Like tiny10 2303 x86, version 23H1 is based on the same Windows 10 LTSC 21H2 (build number 19044.3031). Its main highlight is the component store support that ensures you can download monthly updates while retaining the installation's low profile and small disk footprint (Remote Desktop is also there). According to the project's developer, tiny10 23H1 is for those wanting the core Windows experience with the necessary features and security measures.

Another noteworthy aspect of the new tiny10 version is the ability to perform an in-place upgrade. In other words, you can update to tiny10 23H1 from older tiny10 releases with no need for a clean install.

You can download tiny10 23H2 from the Internet Archive. As usual, remember that fan-made projects like this still require activation with a genuine Windows key (7, 8, 8.1, and 10 should work) from the matching SKU.

Magic Mirror is ideal for a monitor because it has extensive configuration options. It was originally intended to be displayed on a monitor behind a two-way mirror. The variety of configuration modules makes it ideal for use as a standalone monitor. It uses a Raspberry Pi computer running Raspberry Pi OS. I used the Magic Mirror Central tutorial and an excellent video series from Caroline Dunn for my installation. ChrisAcrobat helped with Google Photos. I configured mine with modules showing local and national RSS news feeds, my Google Calendar and local weather with my Google Photos as the background. Despite its polarizing reviews, tiny10 is still a good tool for developers and software enthusiasts alike who are keen to use Windows 10. The rule of thumb for it, however, remains the same: expect the tool to run into some sort of limitations.

If you are going to upgrade your work machine and want to go for an early build then I strongly recommend purchasing a new drive, use a mirror program and duplicate the old. Then remove the old and store as backup. Then upgrade the new. That way you can go back if you need to.

Eventually, I figured out a workaround. Professional cameras have built-in teleprompters. You can look directly at lens, and, through the magic of a one-way mirror, see the text you are supposed to read. That way, you can read the script, without breaking eye-contact. Randy and I used this system for our video series. It is much easier than memorizing a script. And, with practice, reading from a teleprompter becomes natural.

This is needed, because the eye focuses light by reflection, unlike most other eyes that focus by refraction (bending of light) by a lens. The graph paper appearance is caused by the ends of many tiny square tubes on a spherical surface. The sides of the tubes are very flat and shiny mirrors, and their precise geometrical arrangement means that parallel light rays are all reflected to a focus3,4 (see diagram).

The square arrangement is crucial, because only with the reflectors at right angles can it form an image from light rays from any direction.4 Also, only if the tubes are about twice as long as they are wide can they reflect most light rays off exactly two mirrors.4

I use Sodium Hydroxide crystals (Lye) dissolved in water and warmed in the microwave for a minute after dilution to help a weaker solution work better. Please read up on it as there are potential dangers involved. Wet sanding starts with 400 on a sanding block moving the block around the circumference. 800, 1200, 1500 and working up to 2000 Grit. Polishing with a Bounty paper towel with Mothers polish worked into the towel before using. Once the desired finish is achieved I use Dish detergent to wash off the Black polish from light and my hands. You will want to grease the threads after stripping anno off. Raw threads can be coarse and gall if tightened dry.

ALL sanding and polishing is by hand. Machines, buffers, dremels can not achieve a smooth mirror finish.

The samples were analysed on the I18 beamline of the Diamond Light Source, UK (see Mosselmans et al., 2009). The experiments were performed using an approximately 3 m beam focused by Kirkpatrick-Baez mirrors. Transmission diffraction images were recorded using an X-ray beam energy of 12 keV on a Photonic Science XDI-VHR 125 CCD over the range 12 to 44 2. The diffraction set-up was calibrated using Si powder in the sample position. Typically acquisition times of 30 s per image were used. The images were analysed in Igor Pro 6.1 (Wavemetrics Inc.) using the Nika plug-in(Ilavsky, 2012). The X-ray absorption spectra were collected in transmission mode using ion chambers filled with He. The beamline has a cryogenically cooled Si(111) monochromator. Harmonic rejection is achieved using the Kirkpatrick-Baez focusing mirrors which provide a cut-off around 18 keV. The spectra were calibrated against a spectrum of metallic Fe foil with the first inflection point set at 7111.2 eV. The XAS data was reduced in the program Pyspline (Tenderholt et al., 2007) and analysed in the program DL-EXCURV (Tomic et al., 2005). Both extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) data were collected at the Fe K-edge. The former yielded bond distances and coordination numbers for the Fe atoms in the biotite, and the latter provided information on the energy of the main absorption peak. ff782bc1db
