("What Silence Sounds Like")
There are things that cannot always be said out loud. Sometimes they exist somewhere between a thought and a feeling, in a moment of stillness, in a photograph, or in words that are never spoken. What Silence Sounds Like was born from that space.
What Silence Sounds Like is a Slovenian book - a collection of my poetry and photography, created as a personal exploration of silence, emotion, and memory. I wanted to bring together two forms of expression that have always felt close to me: writing and photography. One speaks through words, the other through images, yet both can say something without explaining everything.
The idea behind the book began with a simple question: What does silence sound like?
Silence is not simply the absence of sound. It can be comforting, overwhelming, peaceful, lonely, intimate, just full of things left unsaid. It can be a moment of reflection or the space between two emotions. I became interested in how something seemingly empty could actually hold so much meaning.
The photographs in the book were created alongside the writing and are not simply illustrations of the poems. They form a visual language of their own. Some photos came first, inspiring words afterwards; other times, a poem created the feeling that I later tried to capture through photography. The two constantly influenced one another.
Writing the poems became a way of giving shape to feelings that were difficult to express otherwise. Photography allowed me to capture fragments of atmosphere, places, and emotion that words alone could not fully describe.
I deliberately wanted the book to feel intimate. There is a part of me in every photograph and every poem, but I also wanted to leave enough space for the reader to find their own meaning within it. Silence is different for everyone, and perhaps the most beautiful thing about it is that it does not need to have only one interpretation.
Creating this book allowed me to discover another side of my artistic voice. Although music is a central part of my life, I have always been drawn to different forms of artistic expression. With this work, I could step away from sound and explore what happens when emotion is communicated through words, images, and the spaces between them.
What Silence Sounds Like is my invitation to listen differently — not necessarily with the ears, but with attention.
Because sometimes, silence has the most to say.
