DAZ sadly lacks the tools to edit the geometry of your assets but rejoice : Blender can.
Don't be shy : the quick trip in Blender isn't as tricky as may seem, and the outcome, well worth it !
Here, we will sculpt panties, but you can do it with anything : dents in skin, pressure points, breasts, fingers, falling clothes...
Once you get the hang of it, it's a very quick, versatile and powerful process.
Note : This tutorial assumes that you've already downloaded Blender.
Before exporting our asset to be sculpted in Blender, we're going to save its textures and shaders as a material preset.
So.
Select the object you want to sculpt, in this case, the panty.
Under the "Surfaces" tab, select the surface of this object.
And save it as a Material preset
Accept
Voila.
We will be able to use this material in the content library when we import our sculpted asset back into DAZ.
Hide all that isn't needed for the sculpting.
In this case... we just need the body ( for the thumb position reference ), and the panties ( for the actual sculpting )
Daz export works in such a way that it only exports what is visible in the scene. hence the hiding.
File > Export
Use these export options. They're the default one, nothing fancy.
Accept.
Launch Blender, and import the .obj file you just exported from DAZ :
File > Import > Wavefront (.obj)
Use the following parameters
Once the .obj is imported... don't panic if you don't see it :
It's there. It's just very, very big !
Scroll away with your mouse wheel and you should be able to see it entirely.
Now. Select the object you want to sculpt by clicking on it.
And on the top of the UI, select the "Sculpting" tab up there.
You're now in the sculpting mode.
See all these fancy tools to the left of the UI ?
Try them all.
Keep in mind that you're editing the selected object ( panty ) and just that.
You won't affect the body.
For this sculpting, we'll mainly use the elastic deform, a tool that pulls and stretches existing shapes.
We won't get in the depth of a sculpting tutorial.
There are plenty of tutorials out there like this one.
Fiddling around with the tools is already a great way to start !
On the right side of the UI ( the little wrench icon tab ), choose the settings for your tool like radius, strength...
And you can begin to sculpt away !
Here I sculpt the panty for one thumb...
... then the other.
Don't worry if there still are some slight clipping in your sculpt, like these two thumbs going through the panties here.
We will fix that in DAZ with a useful little trick.
When you're satisfied with your sculpting,
it's time to export back into DAZ!
File > Export > Wavefront (.obj)
Use these parameters.
Make sure "selection only" is selected or you'll export everything
Back to DAZ. We just want the panty.
Back to DAZ
Import the .obj you just exported from Blender
File > Import
Use these parameters.
They're still the default ones.
While selecting the newly imported object,
Apply the material you created at the beginning of this tutorial
Hide the original panty...
And tadaaa !
Here's you first sculpted asset, properly textured, in DAZ !
Let's fix the slight imperfections we created while sculpting
Select your sculpted object
Add a "smoothing modifier" to it
Figure > Geometry > Add smoothing Modifier
If you have the “Add Smoothing Modifier” menu, skip this note.
If you don't find the option, read this.
You DAZ UI might be in a "light" template.
Here's how to bring back the full UI and enable the smoothing modifier.
Find the Window tab up left
Window > Workspace > Select Layout
Switch your layout to "City Limits"
Your whole interface will change.
Now you can access Edit > Figure > Add Smoothing Modifier
With your object selected, and the smoothing modifier added to it,
go under its parameters tab...
Collision item...
Select the body to collide with the panty
And voila !
