MBC Erasmus+ Timisoara 2019
Moate Business College Erasmus+ Students in Timisoara, 2019
The Erasmus+ programme today is designed to foster a skilled and dynamic work force within the European Union. It allows students in vocational education and training to undertake temporary transnational training/work placements over a 3 week period, gaining an understanding of different cultures, languages and work practices. 10 students from Moate Business College are spending 3 weeks in Timisoara, Romania in February 2019 as part of an Erasmus+ mobility.
On Saturday 9th February 2019, we all set off from Moate Business College to travel to Timisoara and Orastie in Romania. 18 of us, along with 3 teachers from MBC headed out from Dublin airport together.
Leaving Ireland at the start of our adventure
We arrived in Romania waving the flag for the Erasmus+ Project.
Very excited and nervous about what the next few weeks hold.
On Sunday we said goodbye to our 8 fellow students who travelled north to Orasite for their placements. We met our wonderful organiser Tina and go to know Timisoara.
Timișoara is a city located in western Romania and has a special architectural character and vibrant cultural life. It is home to year-round musical and theatrical performances, art galleries, museums and a buzzing nightlife. A progressive, cosmopolitan place, Timisoara was the first city in Europe and second in the world after New York, to use electricity to illuminate its public streets. It was also the epicentre of the 1989 revolution which saw the overthrow of the communist Ceaucescu regime. This year it has been named the EU’s Capital of Culture for 2021.
We will be working in a Government run orphanage for disabled children, a school for autistic children, a penitentiary and the Centre for Democratic Reform. We will also be taking trips to other locations around Romania throughout our stay.
All in all, these are going to be some very interesting weeks ahead.
