What actually happened? In any other situation, Stuart would have been sharply disciplined, even stripped of rank. But in this situation, Lee was so desperate to utlize every officer in his command, he could not afford to be without General Stuart for the remainder of the battle. Not only did Lee reject Stuart's offer to resign, he got angry at Stuart for offering it. "We don't have time for that!!"
