• If you try to hold the town, your men are likely going to be imprisoned or killed

• Your corps was shattered in the last battle (Chancellorsville) and you'd love to have revenge

• A disproportionate number of your men are recent immigrants to the U.S. You are motivated to demonstrate their quality
