Short Bio:

Tim Vogelsang is originally from Uniontown, PA. He graduated from MIT in 1988 with a B.S. in math. While at MIT he was a research assistant for Rudi Dornbusch. He completed a PhD in economics at Princeton in 1993 under the supervision of Pierre Perron.

His area of research is econometrics with a focus on time series econometrics. Much of his research focuses on inference (hypothesis testing) in time series models that is robust to hetereoskedasticity and serial correlation. He has published journal articles in Econometrica, American Economic Review, Journal of Econometrics, Econometric Theory, Journal of Business and Economics Statistics, Journal of the American Statistical Association, and the Journal of Climate among others. From 1993 to 2006 he was a faculty member in the Economics Department at Cornell University and received the Robert and Helen Appel Fellowship for Humanists and Social Scientists Teaching Award in 1999. In 2006 he joined the Economics Department at MSU and holds an Addy Chair in Economics which obligates him to teach at least one undergraduate course per year.  He served as Department Chair of Economics at MSU from 2015 to 2020.
