This song is an up-tempo that lists off various influential natives of the Southern United States who all embody a "southern voice."[1] Many are referred to not by full name but direct allusion, including civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. ("Dr. King") and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt ("Number Three"). Furthermore, Jack Daniel is incorrectly referred to as "Jack Daniels".

And "Apalachicola," that was a word I have always wanted to use in a song. Just the way it sounds. It just rolls off the tongue really good. And it's just one of those beautiful, un-found places in the South, that's off the beaten path. It just says "South" to me. It's definitely got a Southern voice down there.

Tim McGraw is perhaps the perfect Southern voice to carry the banner of regional pride, because he offers a complex contradiction to the identity politics practiced by his neighbors to the north. McGraw is not only a registered Democrat, but also a fiercely unwavering critic of the flaws and failures of American society. His knife-edged words following Hurricane Katrina may seem like common sense years after the storm, but do not complement the conventional view of a country singer originally from Louisiana.

Tim McGraw, who has expressed interest in running for the Senate in Tennessee when he retires from music, intentionally or not, has released a protest song against the distractive feuds that inhabit our politics, and in doing so shows us all how to celebrate regional pride without stepping on others. He has also reminded many that the American voice would be weak, stale, and monotonous without a Southern drawl.

The second single and title track is a soulfully delivered southern history lesson, which sprawls through a vivid montage of music, sports, literature and legend. Written by ace BMI songwriters Tom Douglas and Bob DiPiero, the tune is currently climbing the charts.

Another stellar Christmas album has arrived at our door, albeit not yet on the charts. It's John Cowan's Comfort and Joy, a collection of eight standards and four newer pieces. Cowan is the former lead vocalist of New Grass Revival and is assisted here by the voices of Bonnie and Bekka Bramlett. Their blended sound creates wonderful winter chills of a different sort.

It is a listing of several famous people who have contributed to what the south is today. The south is an amalgamation of all of these people's experience which combine to make up the modern Southern experience or voice.

Sacred Harp singers have nothing to do with harps beyond the archaic use of the word to denote the voice of man as an instrument to praise God.As such, they are the prime expression of an indigenous American musicthat has lived since the eighteenth century. Combining adaptations ofBiblical texts with secular tunes and sung without accompaniment, thismusic developed in reaction to the Puritans' emphasis on spoken gospel. For accessibility, it employed the venerable "fasola" musical system inwhich the only notations used are fa, sol and la (withan occasional mi) and the notes are shaped as triangles, squaresand circles for easy reading. Even today, each song is first sung throughwith the substitution of fa, sol and la for the wordsof the hymn. 0852c4b9a8
