TileCat ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the TileCat browser extension.
We do not collect, transmit, or store your personal data on external servers.
TileCat is a "client-side" application. All data generated or used by the extension exists solely on your local device within your browser's storage system.
Dashboard Layouts & Queues: Your custom dashboards, saved tiles, and "Add to Queue" lists are stored locally in your browser (chrome.storage.local). We do not have access to this data.
Browsing Activity: Although TileCat requires permission to access your tabs (to let you add pages to your dashboard), we do not track, log, or transmit your browsing history. The extension only reads the URL and Title of the specific page you explicitly choose to add to your dashboard.
To function correctly, TileCat requires specific browser permissions. Here is how and why they are used:
Read and change all your data on the websites you visit (<all_urls> / Host Permissions):
Usage: This is strictly required for the Element Picker feature. It allows TileCat to identify specific elements (like a video player or chart) on a webpage so you can crop and add them to your dashboard. It is also used to display your custom dashboard overlay on top of pages.
ActiveTab / Tabs:
Usage: Needed to capture the URL and Title of the current page when you click "Add Current Page" in the popup menu.
Storage:
Usage: Used to save your user preferences, dashboard configurations, and tile queue locally on your computer.
TileCat does not use third-party analytics tools or advertising networks.
However, the "tiles" you create are windows (iframes) to other websites. When you load a dashboard containing a tile from a third-party site (e.g., YouTube, Google Sheets), that third-party site may collect data or set cookies just as if you had visited their website directly. We do not control these third-party data collection practices.
Since your data is stored locally:
Retention: Data is retained on your device until you manually remove it or uninstall the extension.
Deletion: You can delete your data at any time by clearing the extension's storage or uninstalling TileCat from your browser.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes—for example, if we introduce a cloud sync feature that requires storing data remotely—we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
