If you want a heavy-duty, multi-unit solution specifically engineered for Garmin Nuvi devices and frequent vehicle swapping, choose TIHOOD GPS Windshield Mount; if you need a lightweight, temperature-resistant mount tailored for TomTom Start and Via series units, choose Shophubio Suction Cup. This isn't about which brand is more popular or what the current market hype says; it is about matching the physical design of your navigation hardware to a mount that actually respects its weight and socket size. I have looked at the specifications for both, and while they serve the same fundamental purpose of keeping your screen visible, their engineering targets are distinct enough that buying the wrong one leaves you with a wobbly device or a mount that won't even click into place.
For anyone towing a trailer or hauling a load, stability is not a luxury; it is a safety requirement. The vibration from a towed load amplifies every imperfection in a mounting system. A generic suction cup might hold up on a quiet highway, but the constant micro-shocks of towing can loosen a weak seal or rattle a loose ball joint until your attention drifts from the road. One relies on a robust, heavier build designed to handle the bulk of older Garmin units, while the other prioritizes flexibility and weather resistance for specific TomTom models. You cannot simply pick the cheaper option or the one with the flashier name when you are responsible for a vehicle combination. You need a mount that matches the physics of your specific GPS unit.
• Who each pick is for: Choose TIHOOD if you own multiple Garmin Nuvis or frequently swap screens between vehicles; choose Shophubio if you rely on a TomTom Start, Via, or Go Live model and drive in regions with harsh weather swings.
The TIHOOD mount is built around a specific ecosystem: the swivel ball socket pattern found on Garmin Nuvi devices. If you look at the technical specifications, the key feature here is the 2.2-inch diameter socket. This is not a universal fit; it is a dedicated interface for a specific line of navigation hardware. The design intent is clear from the product details: it holds firmly on to your windshield, providing a stable viewing environment for these specific units. In the context of a suction cup mount, this extra mass suggests a focus on durability and grip rather than minimalism.
This product shines brightest for users who treat their GPS as a mobile asset. This implies a utility beyond just holding one car's screen. If you have a truck, a sedan, and maybe a rental car, having four mounts means you can leave them installed in different vehicles and simply swap your Garmin unit from one bracket to another without carrying the mount itself. This is a logistical advantage that no other competitor offers in this comparison. The ability to move your navigation system from one vehicle to another with the least amount of hassle is a genuine feature for active drivers.

However, you must skip this product if your device does not use the Garmin swivel ball pattern. The 2.2-inch diameter is a hard constraint. If you have a newer GPS unit with a different head size, or a device from a different brand entirely, this mount will not work. Furthermore, the heavier weight might be a consideration if you are driving on extremely bumpy terrain where every gram of added weight on the windshield could theoretically add stress to the suction cup's seal over time, though the manufacturer claims the ball socket holds firmly. It is a tool for a specific job: securing a Garmin Nuvi across multiple vehicles. It is not a general-purpose mount for the modern smartphone era, nor is it intended for the smaller, lighter TomTom devices.
The Shophubio Suction Cup is engineered for a completely different user profile, specifically targeting owners of TomTom Start 20, 25, 60, and the Via 100-1600 series. This precision matters because a mismatch here means the device will not lock in, regardless of how strong the suction is. The design focuses on a flat base that allows for easy adjustment, providing a clear and safe viewing angle. This is crucial for reducing distractions while driving, a core tenet of safe navigation.
Where this mount truly differentiates itself is in its material construction. Unlike the standard plastic builds often seen in generic mounts, the Shophubio unit is crafted from high-quality PC and TPU materials. These are engineering terms that translate to real-world performance: excellent durability, weather resistance, and flexibility. This is vital for anyone driving in climates that swing from freezing winters to scorching summers. Many cheap mounts become brittle and crack under UV exposure or cold snaps. The inclusion of TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) suggests a material choice made to withstand extreme temperatures without degrading. This makes it a superior choice for long-term reliability in variable weather conditions.
The user experience is also defined by the ease of installation. The snap-on design allows for quick attachment and removal, ensuring stability while allowing for effortless one-handed operation. However, there is a trade-off in scale. While this lightness is generally good for wind resistance, it indicates a mount designed for a lighter, smaller device. If you are trying to mount a bulky, heavy tablet or a large-screen GPS, this lightweight design might lack the structural heft required for heavy loads. Additionally, since it comes as a single unit, it lacks the multi-car utility of the TIHOOD option. It is a precision tool for a specific TomTom user, not a fleet solution.
• Best for Multi-Vehicle Flexibility → TIHOOD GPS Windshield Mount: With four mounts included, you can outfit your entire garage or family vehicles instantly without needing to buy additional accessories.
• Best for Extreme Weather Durability → Shophubio Suction Cup: The PC and TPU construction is specifically highlighted for resisting cracking in extreme temperatures, making it safer for year-round use in harsh climates.
• Best for Garmin Owners → TIHOOD GPS Windshield Mount: The 2.2-inch diameter socket is a perfect match for the swivel ball pattern of Garmin Nuvi devices, whereas Shophubio will not fit them.
• Best for One-Handed Operation → Shophubio Suction Cup: The simple snap-on design is optimized for quick, single-hand adjustments, which is ideal for busy drivers who need to reposition quickly.
• Best for Tow Truck/Commercial Use → TIHOOD GPS Windshield Mount: The ability to swap mounts between vehicles makes this the logical choice for commercial drivers or fleets managing multiple GPS units.
After analyzing the specs and considering the needs of someone who drives frequently, especially for towing, my recommendation leans heavily toward the TIHOOD GPS Windshield Mount for general versatility, but the Shophubio Suction Cup wins on material science for weather resistance. However, if your primary concern is driving through snow, ice, or intense heat with a TomTom device, the TPU construction of the Shophubio is the smarter engineering choice. For my personal setup, I would choose the TIHOOD because the value of having four mounts outweighs the slight weight difference, provided I am using a compatible Garmin unit. It solves the problem of device mobility better than any single-suction alternative.
No, the TIHOOD mount features a 2.2-inch diameter socket designed specifically for the swivel ball pattern of Garmin Nuvi devices.
According to the product data, the Shophubio mount is constructed from high-quality PC and TPU materials specifically chosen for their ability to withstand extreme temperatures without cracking, making it suitable for cold climates.
