This February, the PGA TOUR returns to Los Angeles and greatness will be unleashed on the greens. Tournament host Tiger Woods welcomes an elite field to compete at the iconic Riviera Country Club during the 2024 tournament. The Genesis Invitational is where legacies are defined, legends are born and the stars shine brightest. Join us at The Riviera Country Club, February 15-18.

No matter the level, winning four times during a golf season is a major accomplishment. In a seven-month span, Marcus Byrd has created waves through the APGA Tour, winning four times during the 2023 season. In addition to setting the APGA Tour record for most tournament titles in a single season, Byrd was the recipient of the 2023 Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption and made his PGA TOUR debut at Riviera during the 2023 Genesis Invitational.

Skills challenge is faster expthan career/pga tourney mode. But I enjoy the season play a lot more... I actually finished 8th in my first tournament PGA, after a 79 in the first round...still got about 1300 experience points...I hadn't shot an over-par round in Tiger Woodssince like 6 years ago the first timeI played it.

I triedTrue Swingright off the bat (limited focus meter, camera stays behind you to make adjusting ball in air difficult), and it is incredibly realistic...except I could only drive the ball 193 yards before upgrading my power!lol. Its refreshing to actually have to make pressure shots to win a tournament, instead of shooting 20 under par every round and winning by 60 strokes like previous versions.

Tiger Woods has joined the PGA Tour policy board for the first time in his 27 years on tour, giving Commissioner Jay Monahan key support as he rebuilds trust while forging ahead with details of a business partnership with Saudi backers of LIV Golf.

Monahan recently appointed Colin Neville, a partner at The Raine Group, as an adviser to the player directors as the tour works out a definitive agreement with the Public Investment Fund and the European tour.

The tour listed 41 players who supported the changes, including Woods, McIlroy, Cantlay, Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth. The 41 players include every PGA Tour member from the top 20 in the world ranking, along with all 16 members of the Player Advisory Council.

However, the questions in his pre-tournament press conference in the Bahamas were predominantly about the future shape of men's professional golf after he took on a major role in those discussions by becoming a player-director on the PGA Tour's policy board.

Tiger Woods has joined the PGA Tour Policy Board as a part of a series of governance changes, as the tour and Commissioner Jay Monahan take steps to restore trust and confidence with players after the PGA Tour and LIV Golf merger a few months ago.

The tour announced today that it has agreed on new transparency and governance measures that give its Player Directors authority over potential changes to the tour as part of the existing framework agreement with PIF. In the future, no major decisions can be made without the prior involvement and approval of the six Player Directors, a group that now includes Woods at the behest of fellow players.

The great Tiger Woods just might be feeling these same nerves as the PGA TOUR prepares to tee up the World Wide Technology Championship this week on his first golf course design, El Cardonal at Diamante Cabo San Lucas in Mexico. The tournament had a long run from 2007-2022 at Mayakoba's El Camaleon near Cancun but that relationship ended when Mayakoba decided to host LIV Golf.

A strong field has decided to tee it up in arguably Mexico's top tourist destination on the Baja Peninsula, led by former major champions Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner and Lucas Glover. The tournament will be broadcast on Golf Channel Nov. 2-5.

The "Hello World" for Woods as a golf course architect came Dec. 16, 2014. It was his first design after high-profile projects in Dubai, North Carolina and Mexico fell through. El Cardonal - you can tour every hole in the gallery above - isn't as highly regarded as the world-ranked Diamante Dunes Course by Davis Love III next door, but it still features panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from nearly every hole.

Named after the tall, slender, multi-armed cactus that thrives in this natural environment of the desert, mountains and the sea, El Cardonal is a 7,363-yard par-72 layout set upon higher ground than the Dunes. It weaves through dune-framed fairways on the front nine and over desert arroyos on the back. Woods used the classic courses he grew up playing in Southern California as his template. Bold, flashed-faced bunkers probably won't scare the pros much, although they are eye-catching. Their shaping and contours give off the impression that they're closer to greens than they appear.

He returned to the mortal realm following his bathroom break, playing the back nine in even par. The 8-under second-round score still put him three shots clear of the field at 13 under for the tournament.

No coincidence, of course. If the Tour had just girded for this turf war and tried to quash the LIV tour with its available manners of defense, without also giving its remaining stars (Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, etc.) additional reasons to ignore the LIV offers, its leverage would be lessened.

You have all the usual readouts on the screen to help you select your club: advice on what percentage of the maximum strength you'll need to apply to reach the point you're aiming at, what direction the wind's heading and how fast, the relative height of the terrain you're shooting from and aiming for, and so on. On the green, you can either judge by the contours and pace-arrows, or aim for a spot dictated by the caddy (e.g. 11 inches left, 2 foot long). Play the game with all these assists on, as they are by default, and you'll be outscoring Tiger in no time. I got an eagle on the first hole I loaded up. Turn all this off, or play without due consideration, and things become trickier. And as ever, you gain experience points to spend on shot power, accuracy, striking, approach, spin, putting, recovery and luck, so even if you're only keeping pace with the world's best from the first tee, you'll be doing laps around him by the time you've put a dent in the sofa.

It's comprehensive then, but if anything it's a lesser game than Tiger Woods 06 was on current-gen formats, partly because Rivals mode took ages to play through and Team Tiger does not. With the exception of a couple of new multiplayer modes, most of the changes are superficial, and what's new is hit and miss. Caddy tips are generally easier to use than contours for putting, in my experience. Driving through the ball still feels weak and flimsy. And while there are lots of mini-challenges (like getting closest-to-the-pin) and the omnipresent Trophy Balls to try and collect (hole-in-one, eagle, longest-putt, etc.), Tiger Woods has never been all that hard to play, and working through the list of achievements you've already collected in past editions is laborious rather than invigorating.

Though swinging the club is controlled the same way, two significant changes keep things feeling fresh. The first is that the sensitivity of the left stick seems to have been upped considerably this time around, meaning it's more difficult to nail a straight shot. If you aren't mindful of your swing, you can shank a ball to the left or right with relative ease. Things get more complex when you compound that with the second control tweak: The power-boost and spin-boost controls have been assigned to the left button on the 360 controller. As a result, maintaining a disciplined, solid backswing with the left analog while rapidly boosting on the left button is very difficult. It took us aback at first, and we shanked plenty of balls into the woods as we got used to it. Eventually we modified our virtual swing by using our right hand to boost on the left button, which freed our left hand up to concentrate on the backswing and follow-through. Just like our real-life golf swing, it doesn't look very good, but it works. ff782bc1db
