Practice project
WALK WITH ME
This project is a design assignment focused on developing the key visual for a fundraising walkathon event.
Ideation: Drawing on the charity’s humanitarian mission—to accompany terminally ill patients on their final journey—I incorporated the image of one hand holding another, along with complementary elements, to create a poster that conveys a clear and meaningful message to the viewer.
1. Design brief
HCA Hospice, a non-profit organization providing palliative care, is organizing a fundraising walkathon to raise awareness and support. The task is to design a Key Visual (KV) that serves as the main visual identity for this event.
The KV should communicate the purpose of fundraising while conveying a hopeful, compassionate, and community-driven tone. It must be suitable for both digital and print use.
The target audience includes the general public (ages 20–60), families, community groups, and corporate participants. Therefore, the design should feel inclusive, warm, and emotionally respectful.
The KV must include:
Event name: HCA Hospice Walk With Me Walkathon
A tagline (e.g., “Walking with Compassion” or “Every Step Brings Care,” or a custom one)
Organizer logo (placeholder acceptable)
Indication that it is a fundraising walkathon
Design style should be positive and human-centered, avoiding overly sad or distressing imagery. Any visual approach (illustration, photography, or mixed media) is acceptable, with emphasis on concept over decoration.
2. Concept rationale
Core Message: The profound bond of companionship, ensuring that in the journey toward the end of life, "No One Walks Alone."
Master Concept: I use the visual metaphor of "The Interlocked Arms" integrated directly into the word "WALK." This Key Visual depicts a literal and figurative support system, where the vibrant colors represent the "Good Days" that HCA create for patients with life-limiting illnesses. It’s a story of strength, empathy of a community walking in solidarity.
Imagery & Symbolism:
The Intertwined Arms: One arm holds onto another, forming the structural strokes of the letter 'W'. The foots of the symbol also represents two foot walking. This symbolizes the partnership between HCA, the caregivers, and the patients.
The Raised Trophy: A hand holding a trophy at the finish line signifies the "Walkathon" spirit and the triumph of celebrating life, even at its final milestone. This trophy also represents an hourglass, a symbol of time, to strengthen the meaning of celebration in this scenario.
